i'm super psyched!!! i just graduated from high school on june the 11th and i am that much closer to nursing school next fall and that much closer to becoming a nurse!!! as i have posted on other forums i am completing my pre-reqs starting this summer till next summer. next week, june 22-25th, my local cc's nursing program is hosting its 2nd annual camp s.c.r.u.b.s nurse camp. i was a member of the charting class of campers and they've invited all of us original campers to return as 2nd year campers along with more first year campers.

this program is so amazing. during nurse camp we learn more about the nursing profession and get to wear scrubs and stethoscopes etc... and learn nursing skills and about other allied health profession, although the program focuses on those going into nursing. each camper is paired with one or two current nursing student(s) who teach us different nursing skills and concepts. for instance, last year, we learned how to do heart and lung assessment (via auscultation), im injections, birthing procedures (we got to see the manikin in the skilled nursing lab have a baby and help wit the delivery), sterile procedures, proper hand-washing, we dissected a sheep heart and brain etc.. it was amazing!!! of course we, since we are not yet in ns, can't do all of these things outside of the camp with the nursing instructors and students in their highly advanced nursing lab (it is set up just like a hospital with several manikins that can be controlled electronically to have a baby, code, wheeze, go into cardiac arrest etc...), but they do this just to give us a taste of what we will learn in school and do as a nurse.

this program also helps you with knowing what to do to apply to that schools nursing program and what classes to take in hs or college (the program is for hs jr.s and sr.s and those just graduating from hs like me.) i just wanted to let all of that excitement out!!! i'm so ready, this year all of the returning campers get a chance to learn more advanced nursing skills and more biology experiments!!! yay!!!!! as always is there any advice from you guys for an aspiring nurse. thanks in advance.

Here's to hoping they cover paragraphs!

Lolz!!! Please forgive me. I have the habit of only using sloppy writing structure, grammar and spelling when I am not being graded or don't feel like it. That's something I have to work on. :)

sounds like you are very excited. good luck. stick with it.

Thanks. I really am excited. :D

Are you for real?? Pre-nursing nurse camp?? lol. :clown:

By the way, SCRUBS is a song by TLC. TLC is a popular pop '90's group. Members are: T-boz, Lefteye and Chilli.

Thanks for the laugh though. I suppose this camp is located inside Disneyland or Magic Mountain? :jester: Where can I get the tickets?

I sure want a vacation! No offense intended. I mean this post is in good spirits, but you do sound like you're pulling peoples' chains -- or was it legs?

You know, the sad thing is I'm in my second college english class right now, I graduated Magna Cum Laude, Beta Club, and have taken two other previous college courses in psychology and computers, while in HS (and I recieved a B in all of my college classes while in HS). Lolz!!! I guess you wouldn't be able to tell from my posts, huh? I'll try to do better though.

Uh? Yeah. Well it's not a Pre-Nursing Nurse camp, I put Pre-nursing to inform you guys that I am a pre-nursing student. We enterd the program our junior year in HS.

Oh, as for that last comment, it wasn't meant to provide amusement to your strange comic tastes. Your welcome if you truly found it that funny though. If you'll notice I put periods between each letter notifying any common person that it is an acronym. Sorry if you failed to catch that. :)

I don't waist the time I spend online waiting for my test results for ENG 112 by fabricating illustrious stories to entertain grown people.

Sounds awesome! A lot of fun I'm sure! Well enjoy for me too!

That sounds so cool! I wish we had one of those around here. I would love to go and my daughter who is only 9 wants to be a doctor and I think she should start in nursing to see how she likes it. Doing it right befor you graduate from HS is a soopagreat idea!! The experience you are gaining is so cool!!! I think anyone going into the med. field (any proffesion) would greatly benefit from something like this.

I am so jealous!!

Really?!?! He shows that much excitement over learning about nursing, and that's the first thing anybody says? Way to be a buzz kill!

PatMac10, I can't believe all the 'negativity' and teasing you've gotten in response to your excitement! I think Nurse Camp sounds like a really awesome program, and it's something I'm going to keep in mind for when I design my own nursing program someday. How many pre-nursing (or even nursing) students sound this excited to learn nursing?? Any program that gets students this revved up over the profession of nursing gets an A+ from me. It's a welcome change from the sob stories I commonly hear from pre-nursing and nursing students who feel beat down and hopeless. And I'll bet the nursing students coming out of this program are benefiting greatly, too. They've been given the opportunity to mentor nurses-to-be, teach nursing skills, and work in leadership roles. Do you think those nurse graduates are going to be likely to "eat their young" after they've actually learned how to teach students who are less experienced? These are the kinds of skills and experiences that will make nursing as a profession that much better in the future. Let's see....is there anything else I can add...because I want to make this paragraph as long as possible, without splitting it up, just on principle! :D
