Need some advice!!!

I am currently trying to decide whether to go for LPN first and than get my RN degree or just go for the RN. I live in North Carolina and have been researching jobs for LPNs. Can someone help me with this decision because I have been told by some RNs to just go for my RN degree. I plan on going on to become a NNP or a CNM. Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

My thought is if your ultimate goal is to become a nurse practitioner (= you need to be an RN first) then you should just go straight for the RN in the first place. What are your thoughts/reasoning behind becoming an LPN?

I was thinking that if I went for my LPN first I coukd work and get some experience, but I am 35 now and ready to get this done. You are right I am gonna go the RN route and get it over with. I am in the process of taking my TEAS V in November, taking MAT 070 the 17th of October, and last but not least challenging the CNA board to get my license in November or December. Thanks alot for the advice because it was greatly appreciated.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I was in the process of going for my LPN too. I had taken the HESI test, written my essay, and did my financial aid and everything. My start date was going to be January 2nd, 2013. After talking to some of the RN'S at work I decided to go straight for my RN, only because my goal is to be a FNP or a CRNA. Also because a big name hospital took over the hospital I work for and they don't hire LPN'S. I guess it depends on your future goals :)

It seems easier to just go for your RN especially if you plan on furthering your education. Go luck to you and hang in there!!!

I am 34 and have decided to pursue a career in Nursing. I am working on my RN prereqs and plan to take a CNA course in early 2013 so I can work in the field while taking my classes. I am so impatient and just want to taking my RN classes already! Good luck to you!

Well I didn't know that I only needed 7 more credit hours to get my Associate in Science at the school that I am at now, and have been conditionally accepted at FSU here in NC. I have decided to go for my BSN in Nursing since I have made it this far and than go on for my NNP or CRNA degree. Just wanted some feedback and see if this sounds like a good plan to anyone else.

Congrats about the acceptance... I'm currently applying to FSU BSN nursing program myself from out of state and just wanted to know what GPA did u have to get accepted? I am so nervous because I have read forums about how fsu students get priority over transfer student and there are only a limited number of transfers available .. So far I have an overall GPA of 3.71 and in prereq of a 4.0 .. So being conditionally accepted, what would be your opinion on my chances? Thank you so much and any opinion/replies count
