Need some advice!!!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am currently trying to decide whether to go for LPN first and than get my RN degree or just go for the RN. I live in North Carolina and have been researching jobs for LPNs. Can someone help me with this decision because I have been told by some RNs to just go for my RN degree. I plan on going on to become a NNP or a CNM. Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

Wow so many choices we have already lol. I am wanting to end up a nurse practitioner in the end of my education and I am 38 and have 2 year before i get in to the RN program with PN option. I dont know what your situation is, but I know for me I am going for my RN at a tech school and half way through I am planning on sitting for my LPN. I want to take this exam so A. i could work part time as an LPN until it is time to take the NCLEX- RN. and 2. I will have already been in an NCLEX experience so when it is time to take it for my RN I will know a little about what to expect, which will will help my nerves. I would do an LPN program if it was offered here because yes I am 38 and I just want to be done with it already, but I would like to work at it in layers because nursing school at any level is no joke and I want to do the best I can through out my education. ALot of people here are PRO RN and there is aome negativity about LPN that I have come across but the best way to make a choice is figure out what you want to do. How do you want to tackle nursing school? LPN or Rn we all end up where we want to at the end.

@MyCrazyWorld I have racked my brain over and over whether I should do LPN or RN first. I have had people to tell me go straight to RN but after looking at my financial situation, I have decided to do the LPN route to get some experience and make some money than go for my RN and than I want to become a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. I am taking one step at a time and besides now I have to go back and retake Chemistry and Biology because it's been over 10 years. I like the plans that you have laid out so hang in there and good luck to you:-D
