Micro and A&P 2 together?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am looking to pick some brains here. Has anyone taken Micro and A&P 2 in the same semester? How did it go for you? Recommend/not recommend? I am thinking about taking both in the fall so that I have them both completed when I apply for the RN program at my local CC. They need to be completed by the end of the first semester of the nursing program, but I know that the competition is pretty stiff around here. Would it just be better for me to bite the bullet and just plow through and show I have completed these classes when I apply?

Thanks for letting me brain pick.:D

I am wondering the same. I am registered for API and Micro at a local Community College during the SUMMER!! Don't know what I was thinking, but I know I need to have these classes done by the Fall to be competitive for my program. I had to get special permission from an academic dean. I have a 4.0 and am nervous about losing it. I know my summer will be NOTHING but studying.

On the other hand, I DO know someone who did AP2 and Micro together in a regular semester. She compared it to a full-time semester (which she was until taking only these 2 classes together). If you have the time and attention span to study enough, you will probably be fine. She ended up with an A in Micro and a B in AP2.

Okay, well I have made up my mind. I will just do A&P II and not Micro at the same time. I have other classes I will be taking and one of them is college algebra, so after reading some of the other posts I just don't want to overload and risk my GPA. I don't work, but I have teenragers, (yes, RAGEers:rolleyes:)

Thank-you everyone who gave their two cents. I appreciate it a great deal.:)

Smart move!

To those who did well taking both, congratulations.

I had a very traumatic experience when attempting these two classes; my micro teacher was, well, like my mother always said, 'if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything.'

Having a great instructor helps, too. Sorry to say I had neither.

Am in the process of trying to find a micro class for summer II.

We are on the quarter system so A&P is broken up into 3 classes. I did take both A&P and micro together and had no problems as long as I kept up on the reading, the homework, studying for exams and writing up lab reports (micro). I tried to stay on task daily because I had class daily for the micro and 4 days/week for the A&P. I would write up my lab reports the day we got the results from out experiments. If you don't do well on your first lab report, look at a lab report that got a perfect grade and learn from that. Talk to your instructor if you don't get something. I found youtube great for finding visual help and on processes I couldn't understand, like DNA RNA replication. I took those 2 classes with a developmental psych class and got As in all. Stay focused, stay organized and don't wait for the last day or 2 to study for an exam. Be studying after every class.

I'll second the vote for YouTube help. I had a DVD that came with the book for A&P but I found quite a few videos online when I was in Micro that helped. Even just finding pictures of various things helped. I found tons of pictures of positive and negative test results, agar types, bacteria, fungi, etc. I would make myself PowerPoint presentations with tons of pictures and even links to videos to study from before lab tests. Now I'm kind of feeling guilty that I didn't save them. I get delete happy right after finals and get rid of anything and everything that has to do with that particular class. I just can't help myself.

I just completed AP2 and Micro in the spring. I received an A in both classes. There were times when I wished that I had not taken both at the same time, but for the most part, it wasn't that bad. I procrastinated with studying times that I should not have. I would advise you to keep up with your reading and studying. not waiting until the last minute like I did. I would have been less stressed if I had done it that way.

For those of you who took Micro and A&P together, did you have many other classes you were taking at the time? If so, how many credits did you take along with those two classes?

I'm taking Micro and A&P 3 (we're on quarters-this is like the last 2/3 of A&P 2 for you, 9 weeks) together over the summer, along with 2 other classes (STNA, Pscyh 2). These are my final classes that need to be done to get on the nursing waitlist. :)

I don't find A&P very challenging (I also have an excellent teacher), which is why I know I can take Micro and other classes with it. My Micro is also hybrid, meaning most of the coursework is online, but we do meet for labs. I also do not work (besides the mountain of daily dishes and cleaning because of my aspiring experimenting chef of a husband, argh), nor do I have kids.

I think if you found A&P challenging, or may have a bad teacher, then I wouldn't do it. But if you feel you can find the time to fit it in with plenty of studying, then just go for it.

I took A&P2 and Micro together in one semester. I had to have them complete before being accepted to nursing school this July. I made it out with an A in both of them! It's a little hard, but just study and you will be fine!! Everyone is different, you just need to go in with a good mind set if you decide to do so! Micro has A LOT of information! To me, a lot more than A&P2, so you gotta know what key points to pick out...which are more important. Trust me, it's possible...I'm 19 with a 3 year old and I managed! You can do it!

I know someone taking Micro & A&P II this summer, 6 week classes. She also just took A&P I & BIOL, 3 week classes. It is very challenging but she is still smiling.:)
