Is an iPad beneficial?

I have an off question, but figured you guys would be the best ones to ask. I'm probably one of the last people to not have a stinkin Apple iPad. I'm toying with the idea of buying one but only if it will be useful. Have any of you found that having an iPad was helpful for school or studying? And in what ways? Unfortunately I don't think my school offers digital versions of our books, otherwise that might have been helpful. Any apps that you love using to study? I'm not familiar with Apple's software (I'm a PC user mostly) so don't know what that offers.

I'm just trying to justify spending that kind of money. I have a few personal things I could use it for, but I'm hoping that it would be mostly used for school...if possible.

Thanks in advance for your input!

i use mine for online classes. I love it and never leave home with out it!

I was wondering the samething. I have both a laptop and ipad but laptop needs to be upgraded, dont know if i should get the laptop upgraded to take to school with me or just use the ipad.

I personally do not own an iPad but as a Macbook owner, you will be able to get used to the Apple system, it's pretty easy. I was a longtime PC user but then switched to a Mac last year and I love it! I don't think I would use an iPad for digital books because I prefer hard copies although one of my co-workers is in medical school right now and she was given an iPad that contained all of her books for the first year.

I'm on mine right now! I use it for almost everything school related. I use Capture Notes to record lectures, take notes, and study handouts. I use it for dictation so I don't have to type as much, and I also use a lot of the flash card/ quiz programs geared towards medical stuff. The battery life is phenomenal. I charge it overnight, and it literally lasts me all day!

I cannot live without it. I take notes, record, draw and many more things. I bought a stylus to help me write. I even made my PPT thru keynotes and got an A in my physiology research presentation. It is able to transfer my professors PPT on here and can highlight and doodle on it and email it to my other classmates rather than writing messy notes. Lastly I used ebooks rather than carrying a bunch of heavy textbooks

Here's the problem, all your digital copies are full-priced. Not used copies, previous editions, and other price benefits. Your also only allowed to download the book to one platform. If your trying to take notes you would need to switch back and forth between books and your note app.

What if your iPad is stolen. There goes all your books. If you leave that around, it looks more tempting then a full bookbag of books.

Just saying. I love my ipad but I find no benefit in utilizing it for books or note taking.

The program I'm starting in September REQUIRES that we use an iPad, so I didn't have a choice and had to purchase one. I don't know specifics yet because my orientation isn't till July, but apparently we have to purchase some kind of app/program on them to use for classes. They tested out the iPad requirement last year and I guess the feedback was really positive, so now I think it's a permanent requirement (for now, anyway). I'm looking forward to seeing what this program does, and sincerely hope it's worth the money I spent! :lol2:

Haha...no kidding! Thanks everyone for the feedback. I'm still debating on whether it's going to be worth that kind of money. It doesn't help that I'm indecisive and frugal! :uhoh21:

Rumors have it that they will be releasing an iPad mini sometime around September...that will probably be cheaper.
