How do you all solve your childcare dilemmas?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I am supposed to turn in my application packet June 15th. I don't know until then whether I will take morning or evening classes. It will all depend what class sections are available. So I need to be available from early until very late Mo-Thurs. I have a 9 year old who will enter 4th grade. I called around and most before school childcare places won't open until 6:30. Clinicals will start at 6:45 a.m. If I end up in evening clinicals I wouldn't get out t'ill 10:00 p.m. I could end up in both, morning or evening classes depending what sections are available. So I need to be super flexible.

From past experience it is hard to find reliable childcare providers/babysitters and since I need peace of mind so that I can fully concentrate on my studies I am considering a nanny service who could hook me up with a part time nanny for either before or after school care at my house.

What are your experiences? Has anyone had nannies in the past?

I tell you it's never easy to be a mom...It was one thing to make it thru the prereques and I scheduled them around my son's school hours and didn't need childcare. But it gets really serious now in nursing school, I can't really choose my hours anymore. I was afraid of this all along and VOILA, here it is!!!!! My husband has gotten orders today to be stationed in Little Rock, AK for a while, so he won't be around either to help any :o

BTW my son's wedding was fabulous, we had a blast in Orlando this last weekend.

I can totally relate to your situation. I have children as well and I actually will have to pass on the opportunity to go to a private college rn program because the program is a day program and I dont have the babysitting arrangements worked out for my youngest(1 year old) yet. I am still plugging away at prereqs for the local community college.

I was told to go to the local social service department because they have daycare assistance for families that are income eligible and they can provide me with daycare providers who work around the clock.

You might want to check if your local social service department has something like that available.

Other than you might have to network with class mates to see if anyone would be willing to switch their schedule, sometimes people sign up for the best clinicals but then really dont need them and they are willing to switch to help out a fellow classmate.

I wish you the best of luck and I am sure it will all work out!!!

Thanks for your advice. I hope that you will find childcare for your 1 year old. It would be a shame if you couldn't go for your dream. Good luck and lets pray that things work out for us.

Oh I will do what I have to do to complete nursing school. I might have to take a part-time job while in school just to pay for my son's daycare because my hubby cant afford to pay all the bills and daycare too.

I really am trying to find a way to have his daycare paid for so I can concentrate on school.

I will keep you in my prayers and I hope it works out for the both of us as well

I didn't anticipate to be accepted for the fall and we planned to re-do our kitchen floor this summer and do other home improvement projects. Well, all that goes now out of the window and needs to be put on hold.

We'll scrape by somehow t'ill I finish nursing school. Good luck and keep in touch.

that's the funny thing about nursing school, you never know when and if you are accepted until...you are accepted!

It is also depressing sometimes waiting to get the letter of acceptance or denial. I know you were really getting excited to redo your kitchen. I love watching hgtv and all the home remodeling and landscaping projects they show.

Well, you might have to put it on hold temporarily but you will do it just not right now. The wait will be well worth it.

I am happy for you that you got in and scheduled to start in August..that is awesome!!!

I am still trying to work on my babysitting arrangements, if I can get something setup then I can start in January 2008. I have already been accepted but dont know if I will be attending. Well anything worth having is worth fighting for so I will keep trying to work something out.

If not there is always the local community college or hospital program.

Specializes in peds and cardiac.

hi, i would try nannies 4 hier it seems like a pretty good place to at least check out. where are you going to school? i think we might live pretty close to each other my name is amanda i go to century college. i wish you the best and hope it will all work out in your favor. keep in touch.

I live in Virginia. I think Stpaul lives in texas. Best of luck to you too!!!

Go to a college and find a child development major who would be willing to sit for you. Their major shows they enjoy kids and understand them a bit, at least.

I would make sure to do a background check on them first, though. Have them in your home while you're there to see how they interact with your child and how your child responds to them.

I'm a licensed home daycare provider and I've recommended this to several families because I'm always full!

thanks for the tip, I didnt think about that. I will check into it.

I hope it works out for you and you find someone really great.

thanks, me too!!!! I wonder if StPaul had any luck yet with daycare yet?
