How do you all solve your childcare dilemmas?

Published

I am supposed to turn in my application packet June 15th. I don't know until then whether I will take morning or evening classes. It will all depend what class sections are available. So I need to be available from early until very late Mo-Thurs. I have a 9 year old who will enter 4th grade. I called around and most before school childcare places won't open until 6:30. Clinicals will start at 6:45 a.m. If I end up in evening clinicals I wouldn't get out t'ill 10:00 p.m. I could end up in both, morning or evening classes depending what sections are available. So I need to be super flexible.

From past experience it is hard to find reliable childcare providers/babysitters and since I need peace of mind so that I can fully concentrate on my studies I am considering a nanny service who could hook me up with a part time nanny for either before or after school care at my house.

What are your experiences? Has anyone had nannies in the past?

I tell you it's never easy to be a mom...It was one thing to make it thru the prereques and I scheduled them around my son's school hours and didn't need childcare. But it gets really serious now in nursing school, I can't really choose my hours anymore. I was afraid of this all along and VOILA, here it is!!!!! My husband has gotten orders today to be stationed in Little Rock, AK for a while, so he won't be around either to help any :o

BTW my son's wedding was fabulous, we had a blast in Orlando this last weekend.

thanks, me too!!!! I wonder if StPaul had any luck yet with daycare yet?

I am getting things lined up.....I found a babysitter on our homeowner's association list. She will be available to me for the 24 hour Spanish forHealthcare provider class and the Crash course in Pharmacology class which I signed up over the summer. Parents in my neighborhood may be able to help out once school starts for my son. I have helped a family out in the past and they know others who could help.

It will all work out....I am very much less panicked about stuff.

The nanny service is always an option if everything else fails.

The problem is that I don't know when my classes start...days, hours etc.

I have to be patient until June 15th when I get registered with the nursing school.

Thank you for your help ;)

Go to a college and find a child development major who would be willing to sit for you. Their major shows they enjoy kids and understand them a bit, at least.

I would make sure to do a background check on them first, though. Have them in your home while you're there to see how they interact with your child and how your child responds to them.

I'm a licensed home daycare provider and I've recommended this to several families because I'm always full!

What an EXCELLENT idea, thanks for the great advice ;)

I hope it works out for you and you find someone really great.

Thanks, another reason to light that little angel candle. That little candle has power, it has worked for everything else, even long distance for you. We have soooo much to be thankful for, we made it in!!!!

I wish you the BEST of luck
