Hospitals that help pay for Nursing Students?

I just received a scholarship offer for this very thing. I'm torn because my husband is in the military and I'm already having to stay behind to finish my schooling. This would possibly keep us geographically separated even longer. I believe the pros in my scenario are that I will have no debt and will have 2 years experience to gain directly out of nursing school. I keep hearing it's hard to get a job with no experience, but I'm not sure how true this is. Gah--the decisions!

I know enough about grants and loans but when it comes to scholarships I know nothing lol do you know of such a program where a hospital will pay for schooling?

I work as a PCT at St. Joes in Bryan and they offer tuition reimbursement up to $3,000 for FT and $1,000 for PT yearly and have a foundation scholarship that I've been given yearly since taking my prerequisite classes anywhere from $750-1,500 a semester (fall/spring no summer). This had helped out a lot with tuition and books.

I work as a PCT and they offer tuition reimbursement. It all depends on your hours at work. Because I am part time I will get 1,500 I think about per semester. Call your HR they should be able to connect you with your benefits department and they can tell you all about it :) Yes ours is a 2 year commitment, which I am fine with. It's a magnet hospital, best hospital around. Only 140 hospitals in the US are magnet status (which means they are known for excellent nursing care).

I work for Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, OK and we have a scholarship program. For every semester that they help (up to five) you repay it with a 6 month commitment. I think it is $1500 a semester. So it is basically taking a sign on bonus to help pay for school. I believe our sign on bonus is $7500 from what I gather from other RN's in the department.

VA hospitals pay for full tuition and books for up to 4 semesters of nursing school. But you have to have been an employee for at least a year and go through a lengthy process to get their scholarship. And the hospital has to have the funds available. It's a great opportunity if you can get it though.

Many hospitals provide educational support to existing employees (CNAs, PCA/PCT, etc) to pursue nursing. Even more provide support to existing RNs to pursue education.

What has become rarer is for a hospital to provide scholarships for non-employees. This used to be more common a decade ago when there were more jobs available than nursing students, and hospitals provided support to 'tie' graduating nursing students into their facility. This is no longer the case. Many hospitals now get hundreds of applications for new grads every semester and they do not have to provide scholarships to students or even advertise their existence --- nursing students find them.

One hospital in DC used to provide substantial scholarships to nursing students in exchange for a 3-year contract. Now they do not need to provide any financial enticement and they still get 1200 applications a year for 50 new grad openings. This hospital can now devote its scholarship support to existing employees rather than non-employees.

I can't answer any questions on the interview process because I haven't made it that far yet. They only help if you are in a nursing program and I'm currently completing my pre-preqs. I will be apply for the summer semester as soon as I know that I am accepted to the program.
