Fall Classes 2013

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hey just wondering what Fall classes everyone's signing up for this Fall. I'll be taking A&P 1 the first two months, A&P 2 the last two months of the semester, as well as Microbiology, and Philosophy(ethics) for the full semester. Please if you have any advice or comments of the difficulty level of the classes I'm taking, I'll appreciate your comments, thanks!!! *^_^*

I will be taking:

General, organic, and microchemistry

Composing Research

Psychology

American Sign Language

I am slightly worried because I am not good at chemistry or psychology >:(

Yea all of my A&P 1 and 2 and Micro are with the labs included... So I know I will be VERY VERY BUSY with homework and memorization, plus there's ethics hanging there too!!! Hope I get at least a B on all of them, because that's what my nursing school requires, plus they give extra points in the admission calculation for not repeating a class.... :nailbiting:

It's very competitive. You will need A's to get in.

Some people have gotten in with lower than GPA's than 4.0. You don't necessarily have to get all A's.

I agree, depending on where you live, you DO NOT need a 4.0 GPA to get into a program. In fact, a lot of ADN programs in my area are switching from competitive admission to rolling admission to cater to a wider range of students. The community college I attend now made the switch because the students that were being admitted to the nursing program were young students who had the good fortune of living with parents and not having to work, so while they had 4.0's since they were able to entirely focus on their studies, they lacked the life skills to make it through clinicals. Not saying that young students don't deserve or can't handle the nursing program, it's just interesting that my school went on record saying this and wanted to give a broader student body a chance to get in.

I'm going for a BSN program to my state university, which is competitive, but I have been assured by the administration that they look at a candidate holistically and do not fully rely on GPA, which is a good thing because as an older student, I have had my fair share of transcript blemishes. I'm hoping to get a kick@$$ TEAS score and hope my lengthy work history will make up for my 3.5 GPA!

Edit: Just a disclaimer, sorry this isn't at all related to fall 2013, just want to encourage those who feel discouraged by people insisting they need 4.0 GPA'S for every program!

I'm taking English 111, A/P2, CHemistry, & Devl. Psch. I hope I'm not over loading. I read in a previous post that A/P 2 is easier than 1, well I hope so although I passed with a B.

I am wrapping up my third semester of nursing school. I never took a terminology class and have not needed it. You will learn the terminology you need as you go along. I suggest saving your money.

I am only taking A&P I/w lab this fall. I am thinking of adding in a medical terminology class though. I think it may be of some help when I start nursing school.

I would suggest not taking micro in the short summer semester. Take it in the Spring with your A&P 2 class. Many of the people I am in school with did that. You can then take your humanities class in the summer.

I am taking A&P l and Human Development. Then in the Spring I am taking A&P ll and a humanity course. Finally Micro in the summer. I am hoping to start the nursing program next fall.

Some nursing schools require a medical terminology class. Mine does.

Physiology, OChem, Stats, American Governments and Institutions.

Then spring it's Micro and the TEAS and I'm READY!!!!

Labs are A LOT of studying. Not saying your schedule is impossible but you will be studying A LOT. Philosophy courses also require lots of reading. You can totally do it, but your work life / social life will take a backseat.

It's not that I hate reading but I just can't read for a looong time I get so bored or sometimes every single thing I read isn't quite sticking to me, so I wonder how I'll do there! Since I'm starting NS in fall 2014 I'ma go ahead and do the the pre-reques for the BSN in spring n summer. Good luck to all of us, we can make it, we just have to keep a positive attitude!!!!

If you have as much trouble focusing as you say you do, I would strongly urge you to rethink taking 3 hard sciences and labs in the same semester. These are not classes you can put off til the last minute and still do well. You're better off taking one at a time in the full semester rather than risk having to retake classes, taking even longer.
