failed nursing school

Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I have failed nursing school twice at one nursing school I attended. I want to apply at another school knowing I'm capable of being a nurse I just being having personal issues that cause me to fail this two times. I have seen posts that a lot of nursin schools don't accept students that have failed twice. Is it possible not to include the nursing school on your transcript?

possible to not include you're nursing school on your transcript? Well most schools ask for transcripts from every college that you have attended and may have a clause that if you don't and they discover this information it could be grounds for dismissal.

however, if any of your prereq work was done at the same school there is no way to cherry pick what is presented on your official transcript.. you couldn't tell the school to only submit your A&P, microbiology, English, and math grades (for example) but not submit your nursing grades.. it's all or nothing.

it would be best to be honest with any programs, explain what caused your to not be successful and what strategies you would use to be successful going forward.. and you could always consider going the LVN route and bridge to RN afterwards.

Best of luck.

don't show your nursing school transcripts... done deal!

truly though... you need to sit and analyze why you're not passing and what your priorities are...

I went through so much personal stuff during school. there were times when i had nominee to my name for days. this meant i coudlnt afford to even buy top ramen for lunch! i literally thought i was in hell...

i would bike to school and my clinical because i couldn't afford bus fair... 2+hrs each way on bike! yet, i knew i had to do well and finish... no matter if my whole world was falling apart, this was my ticket to a new life. so hey, i graduated with a 3.8. thank goodness for that cause now i have an amazing job and i never worry about money.

It wasn't the same class I wasn't passing. I was working 3 part time jobs at the time and taking care of my sick mother in law. I would stay up all night studying. The all nighters is what killed me the second time around.

I just want be able to go back since this time I don't have the extra stress on my shoulders and I do have the time to study and put forth towards school. I don't want to include the nursing school transcript if it's possible of them not finding out

If you lie on the application and they find out, you're out. With a risk that big, it is usually best to tell the truth and work through the consequences of any mistakes you have made in the past.

Only way this will work is if you took your pre-reqs at one school and went to a different school for nursing. In this scenario you'll have 2 separate transcripts and you can just submit the transcript from the school where you did your pre-reqs..

If you took all your classes (pre-reqs and nursing classes) at the same Institution, then there is no way to excluded the nursing courses. In this instance the only way to exclude your nursing courses ,would be to redo the pre-reqs at a different institution.

While that answers your question; I would like to caution you against withholding information especially when specifically asked for it. You don't wont this to bite you in the butt later.

Good Luck

If you had financial aid for your nursing programs and plan to try and get financial aid for a new one, they will be able to track what schools you have attended through the student clearinghouse. I believe too that a school can look up what schools any student has attended, regardless of financial aid. I read about a medical student omitting some of his prior transcripts, the school found out this way and he was kicked out of med school.

In short, don't attempt to do that. You can submit an application and type a professional letter stating the troubles you had and how you have fixed those issues. If your GPA is below the threshold, you may be totally out of luck though until you can raise your GPA.

hun, you are making excuses. i feel bad for you but honestly, what are your priorities? if its taking care of your mother in law do that...

i was dealing with he death of my mother, my dad's depression and he was on the brink of bankruptcy. literally if i ate once a day that was a blessing. so please save the issues...

if being an RN is a priority, make it and don't let anyone get between that and you.

my saving grace was that i had some amazing professors who helped me through it...even if it was to lend an ear and let me cry one out in their office. all of us will tell you of those sleepless nights.

after my first year i became a can and worked full-time at a hospital and worked part time at a home health. i managed to help my family a bit with that and would go 24 hours without sleep twice a week. friday and monday were days that i never got sleep... but thats what i needed to do.

no matter what though... anything under an 83% would have been unacceptable to me.

do what you need to do... just top using life as an excuse. you'll find that a lot of us on here went through what you went through or possibly worse.

It is not wise to let school personnel know about your personal life or your personal problems. They do not care and they will use the information against you. Ask me how I know. It was a new concept to me, that I had to learn the hard way. I was not necessarily expecting empathy, sympathy, or any other kind of "pathy", but I certainly wasn't expecting enmity. But that is exactly what I got. From the Director of the program, over the phone, no less. I have discussed this with others since my experience and they have told me that they learned the same thing. Handle your problems on your own time away from school scrutiny and do school only while you are at school. You will have a better chance of coming out ahead in the long run.

I think that first, you need to be honest. Not doing so will likely be bad.

The best place to explain this is in personal statements or essays required for the application. Don't talk about your failures. Talk about the learning experience you had as a result of previous attempts, what the challenges were, and how your challenges are different now and that you're oh-so motivated to overcome them, and so on.

Omgosh! You remember hearing on national news that student lied to Harvard about his transcripts? Yeah, no college will accept him now. Don't lie!
