failed nursing school

Published

I have failed nursing school twice at one nursing school I attended. I want to apply at another school knowing I'm capable of being a nurse I just being having personal issues that cause me to fail this two times. I have seen posts that a lot of nursin schools don't accept students that have failed twice. Is it possible not to include the nursing school on your transcript?

1) Do Not Lie. Not only could you be booted out but they can ask you to repay any assistance you received and its a permanent red mark on your record.

2) Maybe you should explore doing something that will boost your application and give you time to recuperate before you dive back into the nursing school craziness. You could do some volunteer work, get a job in a health care setting, CNA? etc.

It will give you time to recollect and re-attack in a more organized fashion. A lot of schools will not be happy to hear about you failing in the past but if you can demonstrate growth and give good references they'll be more likely to consider you than if they think you're making excuses. I had to leave a nursing school for different reasons than you but schools seem to be rather weary of students who have previously been in another program. Many will require a letter from the Dean of your former school so try to stay in good standing with the school too.

Don't risk it. Even something as little as not submitting a class that isn't part of prereqs for the degree you're going for from a college you attended one semester at can result in failure to receive that degree. If you graduate and they find out later, they will take that degree away until it is resolved. Too big of a risk in my opinion. Good luck!

You mean lie to the school you are applying to? You have "personal issues" that "cause" you to fail? You need to get control of your "personal issues" because if you kill someone with a med error no one cares about your "personal issues". You are responsible for your grades. No one..NO ONE..cares about excuses.

And if you would even consider lying to get into nursing school then that says all they need to know about your character. Please pick another career.

Never helps to lie. If you get caught whether now or down the road you will end up paying the price for lying.

I agree you need to analyze your situation and what your issues are. If home is too much you may need a break. If you want it this much then do it when the time is right.

Aside from the risk, it's an issue of integrity. I agree with a previous poster who stated that an action like that speaks of someone's character. If accepted based on a lie, you take the slot away from someone who worked hard in prereqs and DIDN'T already get two chances at nursing school. Own up to your performance, demonstrate that you have grown and moved past your nursing history, and see what happens. It isn't terribly hard to find out a person's educational history, and if the new school does it's most likely the end of your nursing dreams. Sorry if I'm too harsh, but if you lie to get in, people will assume you have the capacity to lie throughout your career. There is no room for that when you are dealing with other people's lives.

Hi Newtornworld,

Hang in there! Were you enrolled in the full or part time nursing program? The part-time programs are challenging however tend to move at a slower pace and may be more beneficial for you. If you really want it, then do not give up. Nursing school is difficult, the associate program preps you for the boards not real life. Invest in some Kaplan, Saunders, etc NCLEX books and learn how to answer the test questions. YOU can do it!
