Cold Feet

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I have been accepted into three nursing programs and now I am getting cold feet. Has anyone else had this type of feeling or situation before?

I've been taking pre-req's for around 5 years (very slowly) and now I'm right at Nursing Door and I am getting cold feet?

Has anyone felt like this before?

I feel the same exact way!!! I start in the fall. I just try to stay positive. Good luck to you :)

I definitely get cold feet at times as well! I think it's completely normal when you're facing a big change.

Every day. I have been working on prereqs for years now. I will finish them this year, and the closer I get to actually applying to school, the more nervous I become. A few times I have actually thought I should stop now, before I apply, before I have a chance to get into nursing school. I have doubts about doing it, so I try to talk myself out of it. Thinking I should just apply for a different program.

But I know it is just nerves, and that it is completely normal. Anything worth having is going to be difficult.

I'm so glad I found this! I finished & graduated from my community college with my associates degree. I applied to my local university for the BSN program & have been put on the wait list as #20 , my husband tells me its a great chance & to stay hopeful & now that I'm here I started thinking & getting nervous "maybe I was put on waiting list for a reason -I'm not ready?" All these silly thought s of doubt & yes cold feet started to the point I told my husband that maybe j should change majors? Thankfully my husband has seen me passionate about wanting to b a nurse for the past 4 years & gave me a Good Talking! Lol he reminded me of all my late nights, classes, tears , & sweat to get to where I am now. I remembered why I chose this career & the hunger I have to get my feet in to nursing! I feel Ready now & if I don't get in this year I'll apply again next year! All I can say is don't forget that moment you chose this life changing career, don't lose sight of your dreams. We can do this!

me! I am 12 days from starting and I keep finding myself going... okay, self, this is really what I want to do, right? RIGHT?!

I think I'm just afraid of commitment. :p

Maybe it is because you are afraid of failing. You may be afraid and nervous about the unknown. If nursing is for you and it's what you want to do, go for it. Those couple years of schooling will go by fast. Let's say you finish the program and graduate, and after a couple years of being a nurse you may decide it's not for you. But just because you have an ADN or BSN, doesn't mean you are stuck as a nurse forever. Having that degree opens the doors for other opportunities in the healthcare field. Good luck to you, you'll figure it out eventually :-) If you back out now after your hard work, you may regret it later. Take some time to think about it!

Wow, I'm so glad I found this thread...really, I'm glad I found this site. I've been trying to go to nursing school now for the past three years, but had to keep postponing due to lack of finances. Now that I'm all set to go in September, and I've signed up to complete my A&P pre-req. from May to August, I find myself feeling unusually anxious. Perhaps, it's because I've been out of school since 2011 working full-time - seems like ages to me - and I'm worried about readjusting to the rigors of school, especially in an intense program such as an accelerated BScN....or maybe, it's just a fear of the unknown, like others have mentioned. Heck, it might even be a fear of the "known" too... I reside in Ontario, Canada, and based on information gleaned from friends already in the field, as well as AN nurses, the job market is not the best right now for both new and seasoned nurses (to put it lightly), so on completion, I anticipate a struggle to land my first job.

However, to echo many of you on here, a little anxiety is natural. OP, we must remain hopeful, and never forget our convictions for choosing nursing. Whenever you get too anxious or discouraged, remember you can log on to this site and find a myriad of stories about people overcoming all kinds of odds and pushing through everyday. Surely, we can do it too :-)

Glad to know I'm not alone in my anxious feelings ;) something that helps me is opening my bible and praying. Otherwise I'd be a mess LOL! mainly because this is so exciting and different : ) we've come this far because it's what we're meant to do!
