Hey everyone! I got accepted and start at UAMS in Little Rock, AR this summer. Finishing up my organic chemistry (last pre-req...whew) right now as we speak....YAY! I will have my BSN in 2007. Good luck to all of you! Any other Arkies out there?

Hello everyone,

I just got my acceptance letter yesterday to start the nursing program in August. I am finishing up AP II this semester :). All I have left are nursing classes! Looks like I will be in the class of 2007

About me: I am 28 years old and married for eight years now. We have two beautiful children at home. We have a six year old son and a two year old daughter.

for those who are are going to start Deaconess in August of 2005, are you a little nervous with all the changes that are going on? Did they say anything to you when they let you know you had been excepted? I am alittle nervous I applied early in Febuary and was told I would know by the first week of April.Haven't checked my mail in a few days though, I am worried about all the new changes, and how they might effect us and geting our RN.

Hi, my name is Sonja and I am 25. I am married and have a 6 yr. old boy and a 1-1/2 yr. old girl. I am taking English 1101 and college algebra this semester. We currently reside in Pensacola, FL but will only be here for 6 months (hubby is navy). I am not sure what pre-reqs I am going to need because we have no idea yet where we are going to be stationed:o . It is nice to meet all of you and to have the support.

Hello Sonja,

If I'm not mistaken you may be able to take some pre-reqs even though you will be transferring. Many nursing programs have the very same pre-reqs, (makes sense.)

You most likely will need A&P 1&2, microbiology, and depending on where you end up you may need the organich chem but, there is a general chemistry which is a pre-req for that and is also a req at many school in and of itself, Eng 101, 102, a math, a Psychology, (and possibly also a psych human developement through the life span.) Now there are some courses that are listed at some schools and not others, (namely I think the difference between bsn or adn) and those are pathopysiology, ethics and nutrition, other than those you can't really go wrong taking many of the other pre-reqs. Also, don't forget if you take something not necessarily required that it may transfer to fulfill your humanities electives.

Hopefully you will feel ready to register for classes!!

p.s. its good to at least get started somewhere but, remember, your sciences will most likely be good for five years

Hi neighbor!

Which school are you waiting on?

I am anxiously waiting to find out from UIC on their direct entry. Thankfully though Prairie State College in Chicago Heights uses the Rank system and I have been accepted and put my money down, (although, if UIC accepts me I will relinquish the $100 deposit at PSC and open up a spot for an alternate while I take the UIC spot, fingers crossed!)

It's never too late to go into nursing! There is such a need now and it's not going away with the graying population and baby boomlet. Ignore anyone that discriminates against you on age because 1) it shouldn't matter and 2) it's illegal! Know that you are going into a worthy profession that has its perks: great employment opportunities, flexible hours, wide career spectrum and the ability to care for lots of different patients! :-)

There are some of us that already have a bachelor's degree in another field and we are going back to do an accelerated bachleors and in some cases a direct entry BSN/RN to masters to become nurse practitioners! So it is possible and people are doing it! :p

Hi- I am 36 and finishing my pre-reqs to get into a nursing program. I already have a degree in Health Education and was a teacher for several years before deciding to switch careers. I have 3 children ages 11, 3, and 4. There are may people who I have been taking classes with who are many several years older than me. I had some of the same concerns as you, however, I think those of us in our 30s and 40s have an advantage many times over those who are younger and going into the health care field. In many situations we tend to be taken more seriously although such behavior is never warented, it's just human nature. Good luck- I hope we can talk more!

Hi- I wont be finishing until december of 2008 because the program that I'm attending is a 3-year part time program- It seems so far away, but I really wanted to be able to continue to stay at home with my kids. I too have 2 boys and a girl, or is Alex a girl also? Jacob is 11, Tate is 4 and Mia is 3. I would love to keep in touch since we will be starting around the same time. Are you attending a hospital based program, a University, or a comunity college?

Hi Amanda. I'm Christy and I'm also a new student starting my pre-req's this fall. I live in Owensboro and am going to OCC. I'm 28, married and have 4 boys. Just wanted to say hi to my fellow Kentuckian. Well gotta get ready, have classes all day today. YES, ON SATERDAYS! UGH. Gotta do what you gotta do right? Good luck to you!

Christy

Hi Christy and Amanda. My name is Tammy. I live in Kentucky also. I live in NKY right outside of Florence (Y'All). I am starting my RN classes this Sept. I have all my pre-reqs out of the way.

Good luck to all! :nurse:

I hope to be in the class on 2007. I started taking my Pre-Req this past Fall, and applied in Dec. I received my letter in April stating I was on the waiting list (Number 7). I should know by the first of May if #7 is lucky for me. I'm a single mother of 3 (ages 9, 6, 3) working temp just until school starts. I'm praying #7 is lucky. :rotfl:

Hi all,

My name is Richele. I'm, 37, married (15 years), with three children ages 2, 5 & 7. I start my ADN program in August. Pre-reqs are done (thank goodness). From here on out it's nursing classes only. I should graduate in Spring of '07.

Nice to meet you all!

Richele
