Buying New books from Amazon?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

What is your experience buying new books from Amazon for nursing school? The bookstore in the nursing school I will attend sells the books extremely expensive. I realized that I can save a lot of money through Amazon. I just want to make sure that any code that I could possibly need will work for me.

Thanks

Thanks to all! :)

I've bought and sold a lot of books for school from Amazon for myself and my 3 kids but not my nursing books....except things like study guides and NCLEX study guides. I would say as long as you make sure it's the correct edition. As far as the CD's or codes? You'd need to check that those are included. A code is only usable once. I let a buyer know when I list not only the condition of the book but if the CD is included. I also let them know that I've already used the code.

I got all of my books off amazon for both bsn and msn program. Never had a problem and now i am selling them off amazon.

I buy almost all my books from amazon, and I've had to return a couple due to the professor listing the wrong book, and they were very fast and no troubles! Love Amazon! You can sign up for Amazon Prime and get the student rate and it's free 2-day shipping on selected items!

I do the same thing!!

I also use Amazon. Never had a problem with books not including CDs or codes or anything. It usually saves me about 50%!

I always buy an older edition, never the most recent and I've had my kids do the same for both college and grad school. There is virtually no difference and it is an additional way to save a ton of money. It has never been a problem. I'd never want the CD anyway. Who uses that stuff?

I bought a book from school bookstore for $126 using financial aid. Sold it to Chegg for $95.

Don't have to pay back financial aid until 2 years.

School bookstores are a rip off. Especially those loose leaf books they won't buy back.

I think my book may have been high in demand.

Try Dealoz.com. They search by ISBN number and will give you a comparison from all sites. I just watch out for "international editions" and stay away just incase something is not the same. Never had a problem and saved a lot of money.

I have purchased all my nursing school books from Amazon. I've never had an issue. Just make sure you search by ISBN to get the correct book. The books I needed for my 1st semester of nursing school were over $1,500 at the college book store. I got them for a little over $900 from Amazon. That saved me quite a bit of money :)

For the prereq classes I also rented from Chegg.com. Saved me tons of money and then I wasn't stuck with the book (the bookstore rarely buys them back) at the end of the semester.

Also, if you need the access code that comes with the book for homework or tests, you can buy the access directly from Pearson or whomever publishes the book. Still usually saves you money over buying the book new just for the access code.

I am graduating in 37 days and have bought my books solely from Amazon

I bought from Bookbyte, Amazon and Powells (all online sellers). Never a problem. Now I do the same for my son's college texts. Huge savings!!!
