Both Micro and Human 2 (A&P2) this summer?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

:angryfireAhhh...So yesterday I found out that when you apply at my school for acceptance in the spring semester of nursing, your prerequisite classes need to be done by the 10 week mark. Both micro and human 2 are 15 week classes. I want to start in the spring because I don't want to have to wait another year to start.

So I'm left with two options and neither one of them are great

1. Take both Micro and Human 2 this summer. Human 2 is from 2:00-4:50 MTWTH and Micro is 5:30-6:45 MTWTH with Lab 7:00-9:40 MW.

---which will suck because its a 2 month class and I'll have to cut back greatly on work and I'll become a hermit because I'll have so much work to do I'll need tons of caffeine!

or

2.Take Micro in the fall and Human 2 in the spring and start next fall.

---I don't really want to wait another year. It screws up the financial situation and I'm ready to start this program and get into a career I love.

What is everyone's opinion on this situation? Has anyone done this?

Hi Kina,

I don't know that anyone would recommend taking both Micro and A&P II during the summer, much less together at all during a long semester, but I did take them plus Psych last fall and it was tough, but very doable. If you are able to take the classes during a long summer, it wouldn't be too bad, but I wouldn't do it during the short summer session. It looks like it is a long summer class from what you said. So, it will be lots of studying and your summer will be awful (think "what summer?") but, like you said, you will be able to get into nursing much sooner. If I would have had the option of a long summer class, I would have done it, but our classes for both Micro and A&P are only 5 weeks long. Good luck with whatever you decide to do~

it's doable, I did the 2 in the same semester, it sucked at first getting the hang of switching gears mid day from one to the other but was worth it to have them done and over with, managed an A in micro and B in A&P2

I'm taking AP I and AP II both this summer...however, each one of them is (obviously) being taught separately between the two terms.

My preparation is getting my kids back in daycare so I can study in early afternoon and quitting my part-time job.

My classes are 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 pm. and that includes the lab...I am also ordering the AP Flashcards to help me.

Both are extremely difficult...and I personally, require ALOT of study time in order to crack that A, there is no way I could take both...everyone is different....if you are a person that learning comes a little easier, then you should be ok.

Our summer semesters are 8 weeks. I went ahead and registered for both right now to guarantee my spots because classes are filling up fast. It's going to be hard for me to budget my time. I'm still working to pay rent and get health insurance, so I'm trying to bargain with them to work less, and get off at 1:30 so I can get to school by 2. I'll have time between classes, plus nights I don't have lab and weekends to work on homework/studying. I also plan on buying a digital voice recorder to help study lecture information. I'm not 100% sure what I'm going to do yet...I'll figure it all out in the next few weeks.

I am currently in Micro and AP2 and so far in all four courses (lectures and labs) I have A's. Micro is a bit easier for me for some reason but AP2 is much more interesting. Its hard. You will be studying a lot. I don't work outside the home but I am a SAHM to three children under 7. So it will take some budgeting of the time. That being said, its about drive, believe in yourself and you can do it!! (You and Starbucks  )

The flash cards do help a lot. I have the ones that come spiral bound for the skeletal system. Best of luck to you :):)

It's do-able like others have said, but you're going to need a lot of motivation to stay on track. I can't imagine taking 2 sciences at the same time during the summer. I'm taking Micro along with A&PII this semester which is tough. Guess just weigh your pros and cons. Good luck with everything.

Where did you find the flashcards?

the bookstore at my college sold them. They're called "Flash Anatomy : Skeletal System Flash Pak"

on the back of the box, theres a website http://www.bryanedwards.com, I think you can buy them there.

Hope this helps :roll

I'm taking A&P II, Micro and Nutrition this summer. For a couple of weeks all three overlap! I won't be working so I can devote all my time to my studies and get into nursing school sooner than later. GL!

Good luck to us both! We're gonna need it. We should exchange emails so we can compare notes and help each other out since two of our classes are the same. When do your classes start and end?
