Am I Stupid For This, Or Does It Matter?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Soo, normally I make sure I do extremely well throughout the whole semester, then when finals come I have a really high grade & don't necessarily have to pass the exam to keep my grade.

Example: Going into the exam I had a 97.7 in Chemistry & only needed a 50 on the exam to keep my A.

Not saying that failing an exam is ideal, but not having to study as much does take ALOT of stress away since finals week is so intense. Does anyone else do this or is it just me?

Nope, I would study just enough to get through the final & focus the rest of your time on other classes. I have had professors tell me not to show up because no matter what I will have an A. It feels great to have done so well.

Haha I didn't even take my statistics final because I knew I would get an A...

And now that I've been accepted into a nursing program, my motivation to do the best I can in the two classes I'm in (human development and sociology) has plummeted... I'm very much in the "what is the least amount of effort necessary to get an A" mindset haha

While I study very hard and put in a lot of work for all my tests, including the final, it is a refreshing feeling to go into a final knowing you only need a 45 on that test to still pull an A. This does not give me the "I don't care" attitude, I still study JUST as hard, I feel a lot less pressure which is a nice feeling to have!

YES!!! I do this too! I did it all the time when taking my prerequisites! It just makes you feel more at ease to know you will pass or get that grade you've been striving to get!

I do this too. :geek: The end of the semester is so stressful for me, especially when I have more than one final in one day. I like knowing that I'm okay if I don't do as well as I generally like to. I definitely still study because I don't want to get cocky and not make the grade I need (even if it is like a 60). I have experienced a couple of classes where I needed high grades on the finals to make As in the classes, and I did not appreciate that finals week at all. :cautious:

I don't purposely NOT study just because I'm going well in the class, but I do maybe study a little less than I would if it were down to the wire. Honestly, while lowered pressure is good, most of the prerequisite courses are things you are going to need to know in the future--by not studying at all or not even taking the final in say, A and P, you are only hurting yourself when you go to take pathophys. Again, I totally agree about studying less hard or just feeling less pressure, but I would not completely blow off a test just because I was going to get an A, because you still will need to know that information later (probably).

OP is talking about chemistry, not A&P... And if s/he's come this far with an A only needing to get 50 on the final, I'm sure s/he'll figure it out.

We had a firs test for micro for which only 6 people passed. Then that weekend we get an email from the teacher saying that next week we have another test without even having lecture on any of the subjects, so again most of the class fails. This Friday (last day) we are having a test of presentations we have been doing ourselves. Study guide comes out and maybe 2 of the 48 presentations are on it. The rest is stuff we haven't even discussed in class. I was really looking forward to this class, but if I knew I was going to have to teach myself, I would've prepared myself better. Getting a C in this class is going to really hurt my 3.66 GPA and there's nothing I can do.

I wouldn't recommend this because you never know when you might need this same professor for a reference or letter. It just seems to me that a professor would be more likely to write a strong letter or give a good reference if they saw consistent grades across the board.

I have to get 20 out of 100 questions right on my final exam to keep my "A". The lack of stress right now, a day before the final, is so nice. I'm taking my time going through the material, and I'm not too worried. It's a great place to be.

No it's not stupid. I used to stress out. As long as you maintain nothing lower than a B in your science courses your fine. Kudos to you on scoring so well in CHEM. I'm not a fan of that class I took it and received a C. I'm retaking it to increase it to at least an A or B.

Oh I TOTALLY bust my behind to pad my grade nice and cushy to prepare for the deathblow that is the comprehensive final exam. Especially since last semester, I got the LOWEST grade int he class on our med surg final. It was a 76%, still passing, but I dd so well on all the other exams that I didn't care and still made Dean's List.

I graduate in 8 days and am going into all my classes with at least an 89% average, so I can breathe easy now.
