ACT tips?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Greetings!

I am retaking my ACT next month. I had taken it in high school and I got a 18, but the nursing program I am applying to requires that I have a 19 or above. To be honest, in high school i didn't take the test very seriously and I definitely didn't put my all into taking the test.I have been doing practice questions all month and I am pretty confident on every section except for MATH. It has been a few years since I have taken a math course and I have been reviewing the basics but it seems like whenever I look at a practice math test I am just lost. Now, I really want to get a 24 on my ACT this time around because it will make my application more competitive. I wonder if I do amazing in all the other sections and not so amazing in math, would it be possible for my to get a 24? Also looking for some tips on taking the ACT.

Thanks!

My lowest ACT subscore was math! I made a 16. Twice.. My other subscores (22,25, and 26) with an overall composite of 22. Maybe if you take the writing portion, that will help your score? I didn't have to take the writing portion, because I took the residual, which is for your school of choice only. Have you tried ACT.org practice questions? My cousin said they helped her a lot. I highly recommend the act.org practice questions, because they were very similar to the ones on the exam. Also, if you go to that website, it will tell you an estimate percentage of what all types of problems are given on the test. Like geometry, pre-algebra, etc. If you need a refresher (or have never taken geometry), I highly suggest it. Maybe I remember those more because I never took geometry.. Don't know. But, act.org, and also, does your college (or a community college or somewhere close to you) offer ACT prep courses? Some only last a day. A lot of people took the one weekend classes at my school and improved their score by 3-4 points. Its worth a Google, IMO. Good luck!

Get yourself a ACT study book from Barnes & Nobles. Time yourself as they would time you on the test and take your time!

Thanks those who responded! I actually did go and try to take the exam, but I ended up getting dismissed because I decided to be stupid and go back and fill in an extra dot on a previous test .

So now I am signing up to take it in September. I am hoping that my score will be posted in time enough for me to get my application in for the Spring 2016 nursing class. The website says that scores are posted, at the earliest, 2 weeks after taking the test. That will give me enough time to put in an application. But, any later than that and I will have to apply for the Fall 2016 nursing class instead.

Any one have to wait longer than 2 weeks to get your ACT results?

It's definitely possible to get a 24 or higher with a lower score in math! I got a 26 on the ACT with my math score being a 17. So you can definitely do it! :) And it took 2 weeks for me to be able to look at my scores. Hope this helps and encourages you! :)

Hi,

Will an ACT prep course help improve the score or old fashion self study with ACT study guide? Thank you
