ACT tips?
My lowest ACT subscore was math! I made a 16. Twice.. My other subscores (22,25, and 26) with an overall composite of 22. Maybe if you take the writing portion, that will help your score? I didn't have to take the writing portion, because I took the residual, which is for your school of choice only. Have you tried ACT.org practice questions? My cousin said they helped her a lot. I highly recommend the act.org practice questions, because they were very similar to the ones on the exam. Also, if you go to that website, it will tell you an estimate percentage of what all types of problems are given on the test. Like geometry, pre-algebra, etc. If you need a refresher (or have never taken geometry), I highly suggest it. Maybe I remember those more because I never took geometry.. Don't know. But, act.org, and also, does your college (or a community college or somewhere close to you) offer ACT prep courses? Some only last a day. A lot of people took the one weekend classes at my school and improved their score by 3-4 points. Its worth a Google, IMO. Good luck!

I could have been starting the LPN program this Fall...
Oh my gosh! I'm sorry. I think I'd be really upset if it were the college that was the reason for my delay. Instead, it was my own fault. I've been trying to get to nursing school since I got my GED in 2009! My hubby was Navy and our move from IL to VA messed me up. Then, I got pregnant. Decided to wait until we moved back to our home state to go, then one month after moving back home, I got pregnant again! I started school last summer. I have accumulated 20 credits (30 after this semester) with only 6 earned.. So, I have nothing to show for it. But you are exactly right. Life is full of detours. At least it gives us more time with our kiddos before we start those long shifts

I am afraid of Anatomy and Physiology
I have only been out of school since 2008. Not really THAT long ago, but I never took an A&P course in high school like a lot of my classmates have. I walked into A&P 1 on my first day, and I was so nervous that I wanted to puke. (seriously). When you buy your material, and read these boards, and talk to people who have taken A&P already, it sounds like it would be REALLY overwhelming. I went in thinking that I was crazy, and was sure I was going to fail that class. I didn't get to finish, because I had to drop due to some crazy financial reasons, but I go back over the stuff that we went over and I am amazed at how much I actually learned and retained. Now to my advice: It is intimidating at first, but once you get in there and learn your instructor's teaching style, and get some of the basics floating around in your head, it will start to seem a little less intimidating. Also, DO NOT be afraid to tell your instructor that you need extra help. The instructor that I had for A&P didn't offer too much advice unless you ASKED. I always seemed to get extra information from her when I would stay after class and ask questions. There are SO many resources online that are available to you when you need help. I'm attending my local community college for classes, and they even have free online resources through the school's library that you can access on campus, or at home. I HIGHLY recommend you ask your instructor, or even the librarian about this. My instructor actually took us (as a class) to the library to show us all of the resources that was available to us through our school's library. If they don't have anything like that for you, use your public library, or even google. I've found LOADS of stuff on Pinterest. They even coloring books, and such that will help. My instructor had us play a game (anatomyarcade.com) I think, and it helped so much for you basic (major) bones. Youtube videos, all sorts of stuff. I'm sorry this is long, but I know how you feel. Although I haven't been out of school as long as you have, going into A&P with only the basic knowledge of the body was TERRIBLY frightening for me, also. I'm restarting my pre-reqs next semester, since I had to drop, so I can't help with anything past A&P 1.. haha. But if you need to, you can send me a private message and I'll help any way I can. Good luck!

I could have been starting the LPN program this Fall...
Hi all. Long story short (that I have another thread about) I had to drop my classes last semester (Fall 2014) and started back this spring with a new major. I've recently decided to go back for nursing, and I have to wait until August to start my pre-reqs. AGAIN! Right before the spring semester began, I found out that my college changed the entrance requirements for the LPN program, and if accepted, I could have been starting the program THIS fall. Now it will be a WHOLE year (and a half) before I start. I have to retake A&P next semester since I withdrew. I want to kick myself. I really do. Is anyone else having to wait to begin their pre-reqs? I am seriously ill with myself. I wish I wasn't so impatient..

A&P 1 and major change.
Thank you! I didn't take it. I understand that I really need to know this stuff, so I don't want to do it half-butt just for a passing grade. It would've bitten me in the rear eventually, I know! Thank you!

A&P 1 and major change.
Thank you for reply! I've been doing a little soul searching and have come to realize that nursing is absolutely where I need to be. Even though I would love to have all of my holidays, weekends, and summers off with my kids, you are right, they won't be little forever. I don't want to be stuck in a job that I dislike when they're grown up and on their own (looong time from now, let's not rush! Lol) I feel like I would being doing my students a huge disservice by forcing myself into something that I truly didn't have my heart in. It would not be fair to them, or myself. As for A&P, I did not take it online (the online labs count just as the in-class ones do and from what I heard from a friend, it is way harder! Advising for the Fall semester starts in a couple of weeks, so I'll have everything back to where it feels RIGHT! Thanks, once again, for your response. I really appreciate it!

A&P 1 and major change.
Hi, all. First of all, I'd like to let y'all know that I am new here. I've been browsing for a while and finally decided to post a thread. Go me! Anywho, I wanted to start off with a little back story: I am 23 (I'll be 24 in April), married, and have two small kids. I have a son who just turned 4 at the beginning of this month, and a 21 month old daughter. I have been trying to go to nursing school since I received my GED in 2009! Well, last summer, I started classes at my local community college for the RN program. I took a beginner's math class over the summer and moved into my A&P and other pre-reqs during the fall. Well, because of some financial issues (a really long story) I had to drop all of my classes. So this semester I am starting all over. Well, while I was taking some unwanted time off, I got scared about the nursing thing and switched my major to Elementary Ed. I switched because I started thinking of all the times that I'd miss with my kids, etc. So my first question for nurses with kids: Is the nursing profession REALLY that terrible for family life? I've heard so many different things and I'm not sure what to go with.. My second question for all nurses: I'm leaving my classes the same (general courses for AA for transfer) since registration for traditional classes are over, or else I'd have to take A&P 1 online. Which may not be too hard considering that I made it 2 months in on my first round of classes, but since I dropped my classes last semester, I'm on financial aid warning this semester and have to pass a certain amount of credits to be eligible for aid next semester. Should I go ahead and attempt A&P 1 online or just wait until next semester? Either way, if I do it this semester or next, I can't apply until next spring for Fall admission. For LPN or RN. I should be able to apply to both at the same time. But I've already started losing information from what I learned back in the Fall.. I'm just SO stuck. I have to decide on whether or not to attempt A&P this semester by the 23rd. I keep going back and forth from teaching to nursing. Nursing is where my heart is (has been since I was like, 12.) But, I don't want to be away from kids a lot.. Ugh. Life decisions are hard. I appreciate any input. I'm sorry this was long and full of rambling. I've had all of this cooped up in my little brain for SO long now. Lol. Thanks for taking the time to read my post.
