Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

well, it's about time to start this thread, i think!! let's get our bearings and see who all is in the same boat in january!

i finish up the first half of a&p with a comprehensive exam on december 13th and then it's right into the physiology portion of the course. we actually are starting special senses this week and next but will only get the first chapter done.

so .... who else is in? when did you take a&p i and how is your course set up? do you have the prof you want and are you looking forward to it?

i will include the sites from the a&p i thread that might be helpful! i will add/subtract as i get a chance to look through them a bit more or if anyone else suggests some good sites.

~ karen ;-)

hiya, people! sorry i have been away so long! we had our lab final yesterday and i am sure i did well. our final is on the 13th. i can't believe how much there is in this course over the 2 semesters and think they need to re-work it here. our prof is very much into the asking difficult and integrative questions .. and i believe something is wrong with a 53% average on the last exam (in march) .. i am still in the a range so i'm just keeping my fingers crossed and praying for the best! it sucks that it's a 2-term course for us and whatever mark you get you are stuck with "twice" lol.

one of my friends is being tutored by the instructor who taught the a&p course at the community college here (the course is no longer being accepted by our university as of last year) and he is floored at the difficulty/depth of the material being presented to us and the way it's being presented. it will be a feeling of accomplishment (definitely!) to make it through but it makes me wonder how it can change for the better for other students in years to come. i believe reform is definitely needed!!!

when is everyone else finished? i see some of you are already! i will miss the course and lab so much but at the same time i am sooo pumped that i will be done! seriously.

happy studying, everyone!

Wow, 53% average, that doesn't speak well of the teacher at all! I think you're right, something needs to be done. I'm glad that you are doing well though, I wish my class was over(I'm ready for a break). My lab is over in three weeks, my lecture is over in 5. When its all done, I'm going out to

i am sooo ready for a break it's not even funny. i have been having kind of a veg-out time since writing the lab final but soon i will have to hit the books again. dh is gone to a meeting and the kids are enjoying a quiet saturday morning diddling around. i am finally getting at the computer again to the chat boards, which is nice!

i have no idea exactly what to do about the class, aside from writing the evaluation forms. i will be talking to a few of my classmates and maybe we can write letters to the nursing faculty, though. i love the professor but, really, it's the wrong approach for the range of professions it's teaching for. i think it should be broken up into categories. i am pretty sure i would still take the advanced component but i think there should be an option for those who aren't so inclined, kwim? i just hate to see what it does to some of the students. talk about stress. the other thing that i was thinking was that they devote one year to that course -- it is potentially full time and most people can't/don't take a full load when they have to take a&p. so, for example, they could be up front and admit that the bn program here is 5 years instead of 4 (and offer it that way).

anyway, just thinking off the top of my head here. lol i'm trying to get the lab exam from bouncing about in my brain!!!

well, the end is in sight for you and i will be thinking of you!!!! take care!

I am thrilled it is finally spring break. I have a 91% in this class. That really sucks because I have gotten an A on every test and quiz (2 quizzes out of 5 were 100%), but I got a 78% on ONE test. So because of that, I am just barely getting an A.

We're currently finishing up the respiratory system and when we come back, we're going to do a fetal pig disection. (sp?)

LOL since when does 91% really suck? (P.s. I do know what you mean, though)

That's awesome! Keep up the good work!!! Have fun on your spring break!!!!!!! You deserve a break!

you have really good ideas. i would definitely bring it to the attention of the faculty. if not in person perhaps in one of those suggestion box things. i bet a lot of the students feel the way you do. you should put it out there and see what happens.

I know an A is an A, whether it's 90% ot 100%. But I really hate feeling that it could go either way. One more lower test grade, and I could wind up with a B for the class, even though I've aced just about everything else.

done and finished with a&p, now onto chem. thanks for everyones helps. cya at in the chem club!

HUGS!! I do know exactly what you mean! I was just kidding before! I hope you can hang onto that A. Grades just suck anyway. I soo want an A in this course but I am having 40 fits with this prof ... went to a review class tonight and it's quite evident that he is going to try to challenge us to the point of trickery. I just really want my A but ......... who knows at this point. I'm sorry I made you feel bad .. you are right that it is frustrating .. I think you are doing so well, though!!

Aw, thanks, Kayel. You are doing great, too!

I took a practical on urinaty and respiratory last night. It was not as bad as I thought it would be. Hopefully, I did well. I am glad, it is my last practical with histology pictures. I just have one final practical without the histology. My third lecture exam is Wednesday, on Respiratory, Immune system, Metabolism, and Urinary system (partial). I got 3 systems down pack, have to concentrate on the urinary.
