Nursing Students Post Graduate

I thought I would start another thread about Yale GEPN. Would like to hear from anyone and everyone thats applying to the program for the fall of 2008? Its obvious that all of those that applied for the fall of this year have gotten their acceptance letters and congrats to them all, hopefully I will meet them all next year. In the meantime, I would like to hear from those going for the fall of 08. What were your major/degree in undergrad? Where are u now in the application process?

Hope to hear from all...

thanks for the information everyone!

christinajoy, I am applying to the FNP specialty, and keeping my fingers crossed! Good luck everyone:)

p.s. the website says something to the effect of: alternate arrangements can be made for those who would have problems making it to CT because of distance (I live in minneapolis). Does anyone know what types of arrangements can be made? I don't mind flying out to New Haven, it would just cost me a ton of money that I really don't have, especially since I'd be booking a flight on such short notice. I'll obviously find a way to get there if being there for an interview in person will increase my chances, but if the "alternate arrangement" would be just as effective, then I'll definitely try to opt for that. Does anyone here know anything about this?? Thanks!

Hmm, I don't know what it would be. My first guess is that it would be a phone interview or something similar. I would try my hardest to do the interview in person if you get one--it's not only for them to find out more about you, but you'll also be able to get a sense of the school and surrounding area. You might be surprised at the fares you can find. I'm pretty sure you could fly into LaGuardia on American for less than $300 and then take MetroNorth into New Haven.

I'm applying to Nurse-Midwifery.

I think an in person interview is better just for the reasons birth revolution stated. The feel of the area as well as them getting a feel of you. I plan to do the same fly into laguardia and take the metro north into new haven.

Hey guys,

Once you get a letter you will usually receive some info about lodging in New Haven. Jump on whatever offers are included in the interview packet.

Some interviewees may be able to find housing with current students. So if you see an offer to be hosted by a current student respond as quickly as possible.

If you don't get a letter by the first week of January call the admissions office and check in to make sure they have all your info. Be proactive!

Good luck!

Well, the time is nearing for us to see who get a letter int he mail for an interview. I am pretty much in the mode of if I get an interview or if I get in cool if not thats cool too. My overall gpa is not high at all and I mentioned this before. I took the Gre in October for the first time and I scored very low Im too embarrased to say. I took the Gre again yesterday and I kept the same score for the verbal and improved by 100 points on the quantitative. I did do ok on the writing part I got a 3.5 which is the competitive score for writing. I'm discouraged basically because of my not so superb overall gpa in undergrad and a terrible gre score. I do plan to take it again, but I'm like dang how many times do I have to spend 140 bucks to get a good score. They say they dont really look at GRE or overall gpa, but come on does anyone beleive that. I feel in my heart I wrote an excellent personal statement and I have 3 great letters of recommendations, but the stats on my academic record discourages me and now I'm feeling I should not have applied at all. Anyway, I did apply to second degree programs locally....B/c right now I dont think I stand a chance in getting into Yale.

christinajoy,

I truly believe that the GRE is the LEAST important part of our applications, unless we do amazingly well or completely bomb it to the point where they would think you were still in elementary school (which you did not do). All of my professors have made comments about the GRE of how stupid and useless it is. My gpa is not high either, but it is above 3.0 and I did get good grades in my relevant courses, which gives me hope. Your strong essay and letters of rec are HUGE, as is your relevant experience. Don't be discouraged. This long waiting period we are enduring is bound to mess with our minds and discourage us. Keep your head up, and try to think about something different than Yale. take it EASY! :)

Anyone get a letter in the mail inviting them for the interview? Today is December 17th and invites should be coming up pretty soon. I haven't received anything so I would love to hear from those who get letters.

Does anyone know if we're supposed to send updated transcripts from this semester (fall 2007) to admissions? I just assumed a complete application was all they needed and final transcripts should be sent upon degree conferment before starting.

I sent an email to Angela asking her that about a month ago. She asked me to just send her a list of the courses I signed up for the spring semester. (i'm assuming this is sufficient because Yale doesn't have any prerequisites except stats??). I guess I would advise people to do the same and email her...it won't hurt!!

Smit did you get my PM?

Christina: I didn't get your PM, try resending it to me...I've had trouble with receiving PM's before. Sorry bout that!

To all, Exciting news!!! I emailed Angela today to ask her a question regarding an address change, etc not important. What is important is she said that interview letters were sent TODAY 12/18! Good luck everyone!

omg! that's great news, smit! thanks for the update.good luck, everyone! :D
