Temple's New to Practice Program

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hi. I applied for Temple's New to Practice Program a few weeks ago and just received word that my initial application was accepted. In the FAQ's, it says that applicants will have to take competency exams after they are selected. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this program and if these competencies are just basically things we learned in nursing school.

Also, if anyone has completed this program, how is it? Temple is one of my dream hospitals to work for so I'm very excited and curious about this program.

Thanks so much!

Has anyone gotten any emails or phone calls yet? I wished if they already picked their people to interview they would just say so when people call not keep people hopeing that they will at least get a shot to shine.

I gave up all hope. I really think the position is filled, I stopped calling. I have over 90 job apps in to Temple since 7/12 and I havent rcvd one rejection email yet

Hello. I received a phone call today telling me I got in the program!!. So excited : )!!

RN83 did you already work for Temple prior?

Congrats Rn83, what's your start date?

Don't give up hope! If you are a new grad, those 90 job apps mean nothing. Temple does not hire new grads into any of those positions, they are strictly for people with experience. I have said something to HR about them changing the job requirements on that page to say "at least 1 year experience required", but they haven't yet. You will only get hired by filling out the application for the New to Practice program, and going through the hire process that way. All of those other jobs legally have to be posted for internal candidates b/c of the union, not because Temple truly has a spot for external applicants. My advice is just keep following up w/ the N2P app and not apply for the others so you don't raise a red flag with how many apps declined in the system. I am part of the N2P program hired in July (which was a huuuge 30 something hire), so they are probably interviewing and hiring as spots become available this time around. Hope this helps!

Angel Nurse, every time I call and ask them about the new to practice I get about the same answer. I asked if I haven't received an email asking for the transcripts and letters of reference does that mean I'm not in the running. They response is no it doesn't mean that and that they pull people into groups and contact that way. I just wished if I had no chance because they are hiring internally this go that they would just say that, and I'd move on.

For N2P they hire externally, my point was that the jobs listed on there for different floors mean nothing to new grads. They are posted for internal/external candidates w/ at least 1 year experience. I know when the last group was hired there were over 400+ apps for 30 spots, so it was really hard to get status updates while they were going through all of the apps.

Hello everyone. @ missy 32 no i didn't work at Temple prior. I'm not sure the exact date, but I know it will be somewhere in the second week of January.

Did you have any prior healthcare worker experience or have clinical at Temple. Did have any awards listed on your resume or a very high GPA? Sorry for all the questions but I'm trying to see if I'm missing something on my resume that makes my resume not one that's picked.

RN 83 i got in too. Exciting but scary. What floor did you choose? And angel nurse, how do u like the program?? Any tips or advice? Should I read up on stuff prior to starting? Thanks!

Oh and the program starts january 28
