Hi. I applied for Temple's New to Practice Program a few weeks ago and just received word that my initial application was accepted. In the FAQ's, it says that applicants will have to take competency exams after they are selected. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this program and if these competencies are just basically things we learned in nursing school.
Also, if anyone has completed this program, how is it? Temple is one of my dream hospitals to work for so I'm very excited and curious about this program.
Thanks so much!

Hi, KotysMom,
I also received a letter for the N2P practice, but it said that my application has been received, and I should wait for further instructions. Did they say that your application has been "accepted"
Good luck!

I have received the same email. It's been a couple of weeks. I am still hoping to hear soon. Do you know when the interview process will be starting?
Well, I heard back from them and they want a copy of my transcripts, faculty references, and another copy of my resume before selecting people to interview.
I hope you both heard back from them too.
I wonder if they just go based on GPA or what their requirements are. Although my GPA wasn't the best it could be, I've always wanted to work in an urban hospital and am extremely hopeful.
If anyone has any suggestions, advice, or tips, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
Hi KotysMom,
I also received that e-mail, and sent all the documentation they require. Your GPA may not be the best, but if it is above 3 you are completely eligible. Your CV should reflect that, despite your GPA is not 4.0 (mine, either), your personality, drive, and enthusiasm, make you the ideal candidate. I assume that the reference letters are all good, so I do not think these letters will decide that much. I do not know.
Also, in the FAQ they mention about on-line clinical competencies testing. I assume that we will do the testing before being invited to an interview, so they have another factor to weight... I do not have any idea what they may test us for; just in case, I am hitting the introductory nursing books...
Anyway, good luck to you...

hi all...
i guess we are all in the same boat... i actually found this thread while trying to find out more about the program, nurses who have gone through it, "reviews" and opinions, etc. no such luck, but it was nice to find you all... hopefully we will all meet in person this august because we all will have been accepted! i fell in love with this hospital a long time ago and would be thrilled to work here - from people i know who have been patients there, the quality of the system is top rate - from doctors to cashiers. sending good luck and god vibes to all of you!
Yes, I'm worried about those compentancies too. I've been out of school since September and just recently found a home care position so I'm worried that I've forgotten a lot of what I learned about in school. I haven't heard back yet so I'm just holding onto hope.
Best of luck to both of you! I hope we all get in.
did any/everyone hear back from temple?

They sent me a link for the competency exams yesterday.
I didn't hear back so since Brenda did, I'm thinking that means I didn't make the cut. Best of luck to those of you who did hear back with your competencies.

Could someone please provide a link to this program? I have tried Google and tried searching Temple's website but was unable to get any information pertaining to this program.
TIA!
