I am fed up with PCT position...

Forgive me for this vent session right now but I am literally about to lose it after this horrible 12 hour shift that I just endured. I hate complaining but it WAS AWFUL. The nurses treated me like crap the entire shift. They talk down to me, boss me around, size me up, yell at me when things aren't done right when they demand me to do something. I have double the patients and I know we are all busy but jeez is it really necessary to talk to another human being the way that they talked to me?! Everyone tells me it is like this in a hospital setting and it is just sad. I work so very hard...I leave out of here with my back literally broken and in so much pain from all my lifting and cleaning people over and over. It just never feels like it is good enough. And I am doing all of this for extremely LOW PAY. It's just ridiculous. I've just never been so disrespected as I have switching to the medical floor. I work over night and I'm really wondering if it is even worth it. I get treated like trash. I am highly educated and extremely nice. I just wish I would get treated with a little more respect.

Does anyone else have this issue? Things aren't going to change are they? Should I just leave? I've talked to my director...nothing ever changes and the PCT's around here just quit like it isn't nothing. That's why we are so understaffed. Just ridiculous.

if so I know you will not act like this after geaduation.

No, they're not going to change.

This is not the norm. It's the fault of "leadership" that this is allowed to go on.

As charge nurse, if I ever saw a nurse "yelling" at a CNA... they would be written up.

Keep it together long enough to find some place that appreciates you.

Yes!!! I have been a CNA for 6 years and I am 23 yrs old. I've worked in hospitals and it's true the nurses walked all over me and tried to be rude. I told them "when I have time I will get to it until then if u need it done now then your gonna have to do it" I was upfront with them and told them how I felt they may have not liked it but I speak the truth.

It's a shame that some nurses will not get there hands dirty. I am going to school for nursing now and will never treat a CNA horribly. I also had some nurses who would do almost everything on there own it just depends on what nurses you have for the day. Goodluck:)

Sounds like it is time for you to seriously consider a career change. Consider applying to nursing school. Sad that the healthcare profession would lose a good CNA, but it would gain a good nurse. And you would change your stress level and perspective. Better for you in the long run (most likely), and better for the patients. Good luck.

Asking a CNA to do something is not being rude. If I do everything myself, then there is really no reason for you to be working.

I'm sorry you are having to go through this. Unfortunately, this happens...and sometimes to some really good PCT's. All I can say is stand your ground. If a particular nurse is disrespectful pull them to the side (not in a patient care area) and talk to them about it. The goal is to take care of the patient...AS A TEAM. Sometimes people need to be politely reminded of this. Without PCT's and other support staff, where would those nurses be?? I sure hope you, the nurses, and the director can work things out to help create a better work environment.

Asking a CNA to do something is not being rude. If I do everything myself, then there is really no reason for you to be working.

I wasn't saying it was rude to ask because it isn't, asking in a rude way is what I meant!. I completely understand all RNs have a lot more work than a cna but I've saw plenty of nurses get there work done early and sit on there rump and gossip and ask Cnas to do it when the cna is busting butt. That's what I'm talking about.

To the OP, let me assure you that CNA's/PCT's in nursing homes have it much harder and make significantly less money than hospital PCT's. Being a PCT is a job, go in and do the best you can. If someone is mistreating you, address it with that person. If that is unsuccessful, take it to the nurse manager. If I ask a PCT to do something I don't expect to get attitude or back talk, and as a PCT you should not expect to be talked down to or taken advantage of. But realize that the inherent nature of your job is to assist the nurses in taking care of patients. I'm sorry, but I'm so tired of hearing complaining from PCT's. They don't have nearly the level of responsibility nurses do, let alone having to document, pass meds, ensure safe and competent care, deal with providers, etc...

I will quit a job in a minute if i get treated like that.

but yeah its low paying pretty much anywhere you go though and depending on who you work with..... thats the conditions your going to have to work in.

Sorry you're treated that way. I was a tech while in nursing school and know how busy it can be. When I became a RN I like to think I kept that in mind. I tried to help change patients and clean them up. Also helping them to the bathroom as these tasks are EVERYONES job.

Perhaps a different floor? I promise there are nurses who understand where you're coming from and try to help. Thankfully I didn't have any horrible nurses when I was a tech.
