OHSU ABSN to Masters in Psych 2014

U.S.A. Oregon

Hey. I thought I would start a thread for those of us who applied to the OHSU Acc Bac to Masters in Psych for the 2014 cohort. How does everyone feel? Personally the addition of the Nursing CAS portion of the application was a little stressful. Especially since they say it takes them weeks to process your application to send to OHSU. Yikes!

Oh I'm glad that someone started a thread, as I was just about to! I thought it was crazy that the did not update the OHSU website prior to Sept. 1st notifying applicants that the opening date had been pressed back by two weeks. Which gave me enough time to priority mail my transcripts to the NursingCAS.

Have you heard of when they will be sending out invitations? I know the dates are listed TBD in February but I would hate to not have anytime to prepare. Have you applied to other programs as well? I would love to get accepted to OHSU but am terrified that it is just a little bit too out of my reach. How are you feeling?

I don't think anybody knows when interview invitations will go out. Given that the program is a summer start I would hope sooner rather than later so that they can get admission decisions made before April. I felt like I was a strong candidate until NursingCAS got finished with my GPA and told me that my graduate degree wasn't really a degree. (Long story). Needless to say I am frustrated with the process. I hope now that applications are in things will go a little more smoothly.

Holy cow BendOregon, that's insane they aren't counting your graduate degree! I'm sorry! Last year OHSU called people to schedule interviews at the beginning of Feb. The waiting is the hardest part!

So they just finished inviting the candidates for the Midwifery specialty. Next up on the docket is the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner interviews, though those aren't technically yet scheduled. I am hoping for an interview but my GPA is not my strongest feature on my transcript. I am hoping that my work experience will overshadow that... though looking through last year's posts is quite disheartening. I do hope that OHSU does not lollygag like they did last year on notifying candidates. I have been accepted to a program in SoCal but it starts May 5th - which leaves me very little time to scamper and move there if I'm waiting on OHSU.

I'm sure everyone got the same email I got, saying decisions would be "in March." I found it troubling that the email said people who were not selected for an interview would not be contacted. Why not? It seems to me to be common courtesy to notify people who may be putting their lives on hold as soon as it's apparent that they're out of the running. But then again, no one asked me.

Howdy all. First off, best of luck to you all!

I am planning on applying to the direct entry PMHNP program next year - its absolutely my top choice. Does anyone have any clue about the admissions numbers? I know I saw on OHSU's website that they receive about 500 applications for 85 spots in the ABSN program - anyone have any clue about what those numbers are for the direct entry PMHNP program? Or another admissions stats?

Thanks in advance! And again, best of luck to you all!

Hi hope77rn,

I am unaware of any of the stats for the PMHNP program directly. What you've listed is the only figure I can find - anywhere. Just sitting on pins & needles waiting to hear from them! Good luck with the application process. As soon as you can get everything submitted through the NursingCAS as they do take sometime processing transcripts etc., and that way you only have to focus on the supplemental essay portion to open up for OHSU.

Unfortunately, this is my second year applying so I do have some information. When I spoke to the admissions person, they said they receive about 80 applications for the ACC to PMHNP a year, and take only 10. The ACC to Bachelors options accepts 28 or so. To be safe, I applied to both. That way if I get into the ACC BAC, I can immediately apply for the Maters program and perhaps stay with the original cohort. The waiting is brutal. I have no idea what they are looking for. I went to the informational meeting last year and it sounds like the cohort for 2012 was varied. I hope I'm the middle aged career change woman with kids that they are looking for this year!

The cohort this year had around 13 ABSN-MSN/DNP for Psych and around 14 for Midwifery, I believe. All of those students begin in the Summer and graduate at the end of the next Summer. Being in the Fall cohort, it is nice to hear about their stories to prepare for our next term :)

Hi there. Just to clarify, are you in the Fall 2013 cohort for the Accelerated Bachelors or the ACC to MHNP program?

PMHNP interview dates still TBD. The waiting is the hardest part.
