  1. After reading the headline I thought ‘this is a horrid dystopian nightmare’. After reading the article I thought, ‘someone is jockeying for free money via a sensationalized lawsuit.’ MDs has spoken with the family earlier that day about hospice care, and it was clear the video MD was just following up. Sure it’s possible that the granddaughter hadn’t heard, but that just shows a major fault in their intra familial communication. Also the fact that she must have been told afterward by her family they’d already been informed, this reeks of attention/litigation seeking behavior.
  2. Hello all, I am currently working on prerequisites in preparation for applying to a local ADN program in nursing. I have a bachelor's (and career) in another field (education) and am a career changer in my early forties. I have little interest in traditional bedside hospital-based nursing, but am very interested in psych and/or addictions nursing. I strongly feel that both of these areas are such important societal issues and I have great empathy for those who suffer from these diseases. I also know its definitely not all healing rainbows - there's a lot of darkness that surrounds both addiction and psychosis. For those of you who work in the field of psychiatric nursing, do think it's reasonable for me to attend nursing school with the specific goal of working in psychiatric nursing immediately upon graduating? Thanks for your input!

  4. Oh, and I was wondering if anyone knows anyone who has graduated from the program? Did they feel well-prepared to work as a PMHNP? And are they able to find work as an PMHNP? Or do they work as a RN for a period of time? Thanks in advance!
  5. Thanks everyone for responding! I hope you all get in!
  6. Howdy all. First off, best of luck to you all! I am planning on applying to the direct entry PMHNP program next year - its absolutely my top choice. Does anyone have any clue about the admissions numbers? I know I saw on OHSU's website that they receive about 500 applications for 85 spots in the ABSN program - anyone have any clue about what those numbers are for the direct entry PMHNP program? Or another admissions stats? Thanks in advance! And again, best of luck to you all!
  7. Did you ever find out any more info about the RIC ABSN program?
  8. Hello all. I am working on my application right now, but am located on the other side of the country, so I haven't been able to attend any information sessions. I was wondering if anyone heard anything about the job placement rate for Quinnipiac ABSN grads? Quinnipiac seems like an amazing school and Ive heard the Nursing facilities are top-notch, but it IS expensive. And before spending $60K, it'd really be great if I heard that QU grads are consistently getting hired. From what the internet says, it sounds like lots of new grads are having a hard time finding a job, esp in Hospitals. Any information you've heard would be helpful!!! Thanks!
  9. Hello all! I was just wondering what the job market is like back in RI. I currently live in the Pacific NW and am applying to ABSN programs back in southern New England, preferable Rhode Island (where I am from). I am applying to Quinnipiac, Rhode Island College, Curry, and maybe a couple other programs. Ive volunteered and shadowed nurses and all that, and am sure I want to work as a nurse (in Hospice or Psychiatric, ultimately). BUT, it is a huge investment both time wise and $ wise and you hear horror stories about the job market. Most of which says you need a BSN to get that first job, and even then, it aint a sure thing like it used to be. I'd really appreciate some feedback from recent grads (esp. grads of ABSN/2nd degree programs) about your experience in landing that all important first job. Thanks so much!
