Applicants to Portland area schools

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

Greetings fellow future nurses! I just mailed my application packets for Mt. Hood CC, Clackamas CC, and Portland CC today and excited to be done with them. I have my proctored essay for OHSU this Wednesday and am a little worried because I have NO idea what is going to be asked. I haven't been able to get any feedback on what is on any of the essays. I am also applying to Chemeketa but am probable wasting my time as I am missing 2 of the pre-recs required there that aren't required at the OCNE schools. Well, the worst they can say is no, right?

Anyway, the Oregon Nursing Programs sections has been a little dead lately so I was hoping to spark some dialogue. This is my first year applying and I'm already getting a little stressed. I kind of have a lot riding on getting in somewhere next fall. My fiance and I are kind of planning on it. I'm hoping that doesn't backfire! How's it going with everyone?

Yeah the waiting is getting old. I feel like I'm in a holding pattern, seeing as how the next 3 years of my life will be decided in the next month. Trying to find activities that prevent me from over-checking my email.

The worst part for me is that I have absolutely no control anymore over what happens. I can't write a better essay, or do anything else other than wait. I know I am driving my wife crazy and she is probably more ready to hear something than I am. I only hope I survive the next couple weeks. :)

Yeah my fiance is just as sick of it as I am too. She says I'm crabby, on edge, and not myself lately. Sucks for her too.

Hi All,

Congrats to those who have gotten in programs and good luck to those waiting. As for me, I've been selected for U of P's program. I didn't get their scholarship, so I have to see how all the $$ shakes out. My backup plan is OHSU. In fact, if they take me at OHSU then I have a decision to make (Money vs. Time).

The waiting game is on. I'm glad to have found this forum, where there are others in the same/similar boat.

Good luck everyone and good to meet you all.

Here is a short list of distractions that may help everyone NOT check their email every 4.9 minutes...

1. Sign up for more volunteering shifts

2. Clean the house more... (when was the last time you scrubbed the tub? or vacuumed the refrigerator coils, or organized the shed, or... )

3. Bake cookies (the freeze them for snacks during late night studying the next three years!)

4. Make more beer (stock up for the winter holiday breaks!)

5. Start reading ahead! The MHCC people (Janie & Sheree) suggested you could get ahead by getting just any med-surg book to help get ahead. And while your at it may as well start reading your pharmocology and pathophysiology books too!

6. Exercise/work-out more

7. Start watching great TV series (new Battlestar Galactica, Alfred Hitchcock, Walking Dead...)

8. Post nonsensical lists on allnurses.com...

Good luck everyone!

Hey everyone! I have been creepin on this forum for a grip. Good luck to everyone! We have all worked extremely hard to get here, and it didn't happen over night. I'm driving everyone in my life (including my eight year old daughter) bonkers waiting for the next couple months to fast forward. Even though it's hard...I know I should cherish these last months of anticipation before the nursing school insanity(hopefully) starts :lol2: .

Again good luck to everyone!!

I haven't been able to sleep because my brain just won't turn off! I've been reciting the periodic table in my mind every night to try to bore myself to sleep haha

Slowly being driven insane.... It's so frustrating to have the rest of your life riding on this upcoming month!

Must....resist.....cannot...give in..... must...not...check....email....

Tomorrow...Tomorrow...it's only a day away! All of us Mt. Hood Peeps...the day is here! Gosh, I sure hope I at least an alternate position in the 20's or better! But I'm hoping for a straight acceptance!

And Portland Medic...I have checked my email about every 2.3 seconds today! It doesn't help that I can get them on my iPhone, lol.

I keep checking back, looking for news from the MHCC applicants. It's the one CC I didn't apply for, and I'm jealous that you guys are going to hear so soon, although I know it doesn't feel like it to you. :) I can't wait to hear the (good) news!

Definitely agree. Since we're all basically going through the same process, it's easy to get excited for those who are awaiting "The Day." And for the MHCC hopefuls... looks like the day is here! Keep us posted. ;-)

Yay! MHCC alternate in the 20s! Can't wait to find out which term I will be in later on:)
