Villanova BSN Express Spring 2015

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi, my name is Mike. I'm opening this thread to connect with other people who are applying or have been accepted to the BSNExpress program at Villanova for Spring 2015. Feel free to share any thoughts and suggestions you might have and to ask questions. Hopefully this forum can serve as a way for us to get to know each other a bit prior to the start of the program.

hi laurag10! the interview was very much like a conversation, so i'm assuming it changes per person. she really spent most of the time talking to me about the program and trying to sell it to ME, which made me both excited and nervous because i was hoping to get to sell myself to them more haha. i have heard that they may ask questions like that, but she only asked me what i think the role of the nurse is. i would prepare for a variety general questions. villanova is my first choice too, and she told me the acceptance letters from the upcoming admissions meeting should go out early to mid october. praying we all get in!

Hi @laurag10! I had my interview the other week! It was really informal and mostly her talking about the program covering all the bases. I was asked to tell a little about myself how I got into nursing. That was the only question specifically asked. It was really conversational and really positive. I asked questions as different aspects of the program were being described to me. At the end of the interview she told me the next meeting was in September to discuss acceptances and that she would gladly recommend me and that I would be hearing from them "soon"! So I'm thinking maybe October?

Cannot wait to see if I get in - keeping my fingers crossed for all of us!

My interview got pushed to Thursday so I have a few more days to prep :whistling:

Sweetem - you'll do great! Good luck!

Thanks RNL0VE! I'm actually looking forward to it

Interview update!

It went well! It was pretty much a long conversation, we talked for about 50 minutes. The only question I was asked was what I had done since graduating and a few questions on my classes. She also asked if I was applying anywhere else. The rest was talking about the program, and current events. The campus and building is very nice and new since it's just a few years old. In terms of acceptances, it was similar to what has already been stated, the class ends up around 80-85 people. Tuition is expected to be around 46k for the entire program with whatever living expenses. Their attrition is very high (only lose about 2-3 people per year for personal reasons), and the NCLEX pass rate is around 92%. The school offers a ton of help in terms of study skills if one is having trouble. She mentioned that there are many study abroad programs we could do on our breaks.

One thing she mentioned was that the committee is actually meeting tomorrow to discuss the applicants they've interviewed already, so hopefully they should have some decisions by the beginning of October! I definitely have my fingers crossed and I'm hoping that some of my undergrad grades don't have too big of an impact. Anyways good luck to everyone with upcoming interviews!

Sweetem that's awesome! Glad to heAr it went well! Hopefully well hear soon! Good luck!

Are you going to the open house in October?

Yes for sure, I would like to see more of the school. Though I think I'll hold off for a few weeks on registering, it would be nice to hear back from admissions first.

I'll post the link so I can remember to register: Villanova Open House

Glad everyones interviews are going well!!!! Did they tell you about the open house at the interview? Or can anyone attend?

One quick question: When you guys submitted your personal statement, is there a maximum word length? I will probably apply next week; I updated my resume and I am tweaking my personal statement now. Are any of you applying to any other schools?

@warriortac

The open house is for anyone interested in applying and they hold it every fall and spring. I wasn't told about it during the interview but I saw it on the website and planned on attending just to get a better feel of the program.

There's no word limit for the essay so that's not a problem. You just attach the document. I think mine was about 2 full pages.

Initially, I planned on applying to Penn and Jefferson but I would have to take an extra class. This is my first choice so if I find out before the deadlines for the other two I won't apply.

Hi warriortac!

My personal statement was about a page, maybe a few lines longer on a 2nd page.

I also applied to Jefferson and - haven't heard from either of those programs yet. I was equally hoping to get into Jefferson and Villanova however after so research I learned some important financial aid details that are a deciding factor for me. Since I need to finance the entire nursing program with loans, I found out Villanova you can take out two years of financial aid vs. 1 year at Jefferson, which means you can max out more stafford loans over the two years, this reducing the amount of personal loans I'll need which should mean better interest rates for the long run on paying them back. That factor alone makes me want Villanova even more!

Sweetem and RNLOVE thank you for the information!

RNLOVE that is good information in regards to the financial aid portion. I, too, will be financing this program on loans. Also, if I am accepted I would have to move to PA. Are you guys commuting to school? I guess when I eventually apply and find out I will need to research some near by places to live. Hope everyone keeps each other updated! Love to hear from everyone.
