University of Miami Accelerated BSN spring 2015

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello everyone, I just wanted to start this thread for anyone interesting or planning on applying to UM for spring 2015. I am finishing up the pre-requisites I need...doing micro class and lab. So far those are the only things I know I have to take. I'm extremely nervous, mainly because of the waiting game to see if I'm accepted or not.

I had to take over class, so I am not too happy about that either, so that also makes me a little down.

Also when I called the other day, someone said they are changing the application process, did anyone else hear that information?

Are you guys finish with all your pre-requisites?

Do you know how much repeating a class puts you in the hole for not getting accepted?

I got an email from the nursing department regarding books, uniforms, and laptop requirements about a week or so ago. If you need the email I can forward it to you. Have you heard anything from Financial aid?

Thank you bullsfan, please fwd that email to me when you have a moment(). Oh yeah as for financial aid, I havent heard a thing. Going to call them tomorrow.

will pm you

I got my financial aid sometime over the weekend through Canelink. It took them several weeks to get the package prepared since I last called.

I just realized there is a whole online course on blackboard/canelink that we are supposed to complete prior to orientation. It goes over everything we need to do.

Has anybody heard anything about scholarships?

I'm not even looking at Blackboard until I'm done with finals. The stress and lack of sleep is really crazy right now. :dead: Be prepared to be frustrated, because we're not going to hear final decisions about scholarships until later in December (right around Christmas) and in early January for others. Hang in there everyone.

I guess we are going to be issued id's, parking passes and so forth when we meet on Jan. 8th(i think), or does anyone have any info on that? Oh yeah, did you all see the prices on those books?

I think you have to apply for the parking pass online. I found the people at the transportation office to be very helpful when I called. The permits are kind of expensive (plan to spend a couple hundred bucks a year) and some are more expensive than others. Anyone who is taking the Metrorail to campus has to apply for your special discount monthly pass in person (50 bucks a month unlimited). You can take a shuttle from the Metrorail if you're commuting. I'll be riding my bike to campus though. If you register your bike with campus police, they give you a free U-lock!

I actually cannot believe the textbook list prices. I paid maybe $120-200 a semester for books and supplies every semester in ugrad. Clearly, we should all write textbooks after we graduate.

Books are so expensive!!!!!

Does anyone know when we have to bring in our computers so IT does whatever it is they do to it?

The email I got from the nursing department says we have to bring the laptop to IT before the first exam.

What other students are having trouble with financial aid? I spoke with a few people from the financial aid department and they said there is a hold on some but not all of the students financial aid because the nursing department registered some of us incorrectly. I called the nursing department and they confirmed that this is a real issue and that they are "working on it". It is getting really frustrating because loans have to be disbursed prior to the start of class and that process usually takes around a month.
