Nursing Students School Programs

Hello all!

I am a pre-nursing student at Tarrant County College hoping to get into the Spring 2018 ADN program. I have found allnurses to be extremely helpful in regards to information about student stats and program requirements.

My current stats are:

API: B

APII: A

Microbiology: In Progress

HESI A2: Scheduled next month

I'm currently studying Evolve's HESI preparation book. I wanted to create this discussion for questions, answers, and encouragement for Tarrant County College Spring 2018 hopefuls. I know it's a little early but hey, I'm excited. :)

  1. I am VERY familiar with the TCC nursing program.
  2. Many students struggle with reading in nursing school. The volume and complexity of the reading are both a challenge. Therefore I HIGHLY recommend that any nursing aspirant (for ANY school) take the self assessment (Fun Tests”) at this site. www.rocketreader.com Improving your reading skills (even if they have been adequate for your studies so far) will REALLY pay off in nursing school.
  3. I frequently encounter students who confuse the required courses for nursing school, with the highly recommended courses. Here is my list of recommended courses:

    1. Foreign language. In the southwest having skill in both English and Spanish is VERY helpful!
    2. Chemistry. While some programs no longer require chemistry, chemistry remains VERY helpful for nursing students.
    3. Nutrition. Take it!
    4. [*]Even if you are planning on applying to Associate Degree programs, take advantage of this time, before you start your nursing studies, to complete as many of the additional pre-requisites for RN-to-BSN programs. Generally these are courses such as History, Government, Anthropology or Sociology, Statistics, Nutrition, etc. No student today should plan on stopping their education at the Associate Degree level in nursing. The nursing employment marketplace is changing rapidly to a strong preference for B.S.N. vs A.D.N.

      [*]Good Luck!

I am currently enrolled in the LVN/EMT fast track. I applied with

AP I: A

AP 2:B

Micro: A

HESI 86%

I will be finished this August. I started last may. I don't know how much differs from my track with the regular students but I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks for your reply Misstiffany1106 and congrats on the fast-track program! I'm hoping to start Jan. 2018. The adviser told me it will be Spring 2018, Summer I 2018, Summer II 2018, Fall 2018, and Spring 2019 for regular track. Can't wait to get in. I just made an A on both my Micro lecture exam and Lab exam. If I keep it up I'll have an A in Micro. What has been the hardest part of the program for you so far?

Hello!

My plan is to apply for the Spring 2018 ADN program as well!

Awesome cdavis52910! Post your stats if you feel like it. Hopefully, as we approach the application deadline (August 31st), we'll get more people post. Micro is kicking my butt. I feel like it's way more information than API, II. Good luck to you!

For some reason my emails were going to junk lol. The hardest most difficult part in the program has been the different requirements of each clinical instructor for example...care plans. Each instructor may have a different way they prefer you to do it, this information is important....now this information isn't. Like some programs at time there has been a bit of unorganization. The exams can be over a lot of material. One class our first exam was over 15 chapters. Yeah right 15!!!! So when you only have 60 questions it is really hard to narrow down the information that is needed. However your objectives in the syllabus or CID is your lifeline and this is quite helpful. Just relax for now because once you get in. Life gets real lol. I have 4 months and 17 days left. However I am happy I came to tcc. I am getting what I came for! I'm sure other schools may have the same complaints but ultimately you'll be pleased. I take all classes online so I can't really tell you a lot about the instructors. I've had really good ones and I've had ones that were not so much.

Hi guys! I am glad there is a thread here already for Spring. I am taking the HESI next week, and just have to finish up with my microbiology this semester. Fingers crossed for all of us!

A&P 1: A

A&P 2: B

Micro: In progress

Hesi: Scheduled in April

I signed up to retake A&P 2 in the summer, I am trying to do everything I can before August 31st!

For those of you who have taken the Hesi already, do you have any tips? I bought the book and am studying that.

AP 2: A

Micro: in progress

Probably going to retake the HESI at least one more time before August 31st. Dr. Smith's micro is kicking my butt! Currently have a 94 in the class. Trying to hold on to it! :)

The McGraw hill HESI A2 Practice test book is good as well. It has 3 tests, each 50 questions. Also HESI A2 Mastery App for your phone is really good. It cost $5 but you can use it on desktop too. Also, you can take the HESI every 60 days at the school, as many times as you want outside of TCC. I made a 90.5, but with my B in AP 1, I want my score to be higher.

Hey everyone! I'm in Microbiology right now as well. I'm hoping for an A. Took the HESI today!

Current stats:

A&P1-A

A&P2-A

HESI-90.5
