Is mount st marys the same as west coast university? (LA)

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone. I want to attend Mount St Marys Nursing BSN program but not if I can't transfer my degree to a CAL STATE or UC after to get my masters degree. I also wanted to attend West Coast University but didn't for the fact that you can't transfer anything out of that school. If anyone can please let me it is very much appreciated. Thank you!

You actually can transfer to any school and get your masters if you go to WCU , since they're wasc accredited.

Hi I think you should do a little more research. Mount st Mary's is a private university like how usc is. West coast is also private but there are two major factors that set them apart: selectability and cost

I'm like99% positive you can advance your degree at mount at Mary's. Don't waste your money at west coast. I don't think I would waste my money on mount st Mary's if I had an option

I wouldn't attend these schools, either. The staggering tuition is not worth it, especially for a degree in nursing.

I would look into the nursing programs at the Cal States or the UC system for both the BSN and MSN degrees. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Exactly and considering most people go for an adn at mount st Mary's because it's easier to get in than the BSN program but cost just as much if not way more

While they may be alittle costly, they both offer a good educational experience for nursing students. West Coast University has a state of the art simulations center that mimics and actual hospital setting to help you gain hospital experience with human like Mannequins that mimic all human function, diseases and symptoms operated by the instructor conducting the simulation. I am thinking of attending there because of the experience they give prior to you actually going to your clinicals. The good thing about them is that they ensure you are confident and competent to take care of a patient before you actually go to clinicals and care for an actual human patient. To see the simulations for myself and get the feel of being in an actually hospital with breathing and talking mannequins was quite an experience to see.

The reason private universities are much higher is because their funding is based solely off of tuition which also helps them in being more state of the art with their materials, equipment and education offered. State and federally funded schools are capped on what they give the school so they are kind of limited on what they can do to better their programs because they have to make the money that was given to them work for the school as a whole. They are depending more on the state and federal fund then they are student tuition even though they keep raising it every year.

If you look at some state or public schools who depend on state and federal funding, you will find them not as updated as private school. They won't have to state of the art equipment to better students educational experience. They environment will be different. Just my opinion on it.

I looked at Mount St Mary's but the school hours won't fit in my work schedule they way I need it. I have to work still due to being a single mom.

Both schools are WASC accredited so their credits do transfer. They are both good schools to attend so its all up to how you feel about it. If you are willing to pay the amounts then go for it. Who cares about them being costly. Are they a good fit to give you are great educational experience so that you can be confident as an RN in your field. That's important!

I have Financial AID I can get plus my Post 9-11 GI Bill I can get as well so going to West Coast University will not be a problem because not all the cost will be Financial Aid. Plus I have a Bachelors of Science degree in Human Services and I am completing science classes so I have alot to transfer which will reduce my amount. I am taking a break from school the rest of the year so I can relax my brain after 6 years of straight schooling. I want to be mentally clear and able to get back in focus and able to concentrate of my nursing education. I will start next year January.

I know for a fact there is at least one state school that has a simulation lab with human like mannequins that mimic human functions and are operated by the instructor conducting the simulation...and it costs A LOT less than WCU.

Yes and the fact that if I was a hiring manager and I came across a nursing application with west coast university on it I think I might just pass just because I know ANYONE can attend that school.

On another note, wcu takes all the tuition upfront so if u fail out you still owe tens of thousands of dollars in loans

I think it was UCLA. I was looking at their website and found it.

WCU takes financial aid and military GI Bill that is not upfront money so they do not take money up front. I will be using both. They both pay after the grade not before the grade. Already checked on that one.

They may have an easier program but they start with general education and science classes that must be passed first if not transferred in and if they get through the program which is very hard then they worked hard to get there and should not be discounted. If they got in and can't handle nursing school then they would already be failed out and you won't even meet them. It means they were not ready for nursing school and thought they would breeze through just because it was alittle easier to get in but you get a culture shock once you start attending because although it may have been easier to get in, You wont have it easy in getting through the program.
