And as funfunfun 550 said, you don't have to take the pre req's at OU, but some of them are offered in the 5 week format, which helps things go faster.

    What about general courses?
I live in PA, so the general classes that I needed, I took in my community college and then transferred them over without a problem and I completed those online as well. The only general class that you have to take at Ohio is the Junior level English class- if you don't have it already. I just finished the first nursing class at Ohio and it wasn't too bad, I basically work full time and have a preschooler . As of right now, I am only take a single class per session, but am thinking about doubling up in at least one session to be done by this fall.

I am taking the classes way out of order too, my next one is the Community Health class, wish me luck!

I just figured out that it will take me 16 more months to complete this degree, and that is with taking 3 couses per semester. I only have 4 more nusing classes, but the gen ed are what is taking so long. When I am finished I will have taken the 9 Nursing and 13 additional courses........ I think if I had known this going in, I wouldn't have done it. I am burnt out on school. I've been taking classes for a year with no break except the time between semesters in December.
And 16 more months... with no breaks, just makes it sounds ovewhelming.
    Anyone else feel that way??

Wow! That's awful. I am so sorry. I am from Cincinnati too and researching schools. Where would you recommend if not OU? Thanks!

If you have the resources and interest, my manager did the RN to MSN at Xavier. She was a diploma grad too, and didn't have to take all the stuff OU is making me take. She didnt have to have Freshman Comp, didn't have to take Chemistry, retake Soc or Psych.
Everyone's circumstances are different, and it wasn't a good fit for me for several reaons, but if you think you will want your MSN, check it out.

Xavier is so expensive! I haven't gotten my DARS from OU back yet, but will NOT take Chemistry again so that could be a deal breaker for me.

    .

Yes, Xavier is very expensive. That is why I didn't choose that route. If you already had chemistry, then you shouldn't have to take it. I am, well... let's just say, a seasoned nurse... been a very long time since I was in Nursing School, am a diploma grad. They said b/c much of my course work was blended into the nursing courses and not stand alone, they don't count. If you have your AD, will be much easier for you.
I really like the 5 week format for the nursing couses at OU. Just when you get really sick of a class, it's over. Moves things along. But most of the extra courses are not in the 5 wk format, that is why it is taking me so long.
Good luck on you road to your BSN!!!

I'm from Cincinnati as well. Were you a diploma RN? Just curious why so many prerequisites? I work at Two hospitals inCincinnati and 1 hospital requires it. The other encourages it.

Sorry didn't read entire page b4 I posted. Hang in there. I'm unable to take more than 1 class at at time. So it will take me awhile to finish. But I'm in no hurry because it doesn't mean anything to me just my employer.
