Thought I would start a new thread on my next class coming up. I know Delta...you have already taken this class, and have commented elsewhere about some of the requirements.

Any words of wisdom you and others can share whould be appreciated.

Woot, woot week 3 DONE!!!! Only two more weeks and we can all celebrate the end of this horrid class!!!

Two more weeks...two more weeks...rinse and repeat...

No need for the beard - but I'm not washing my Flyers jersey until this is over!

I agree..I HATE this class and the picky TA I have. I'm worrying more about the little things on my paper rather than the content. I am putting way too much time into this class. How long was your last assignment? (health department)...mine was 15 pages long. I better get a HIGH A....but I could have missed a period at the end of one of the references and lose a 1/2 point. can you tell I love the class????

I find it interesting that the two mental health videos we are required to watch for week 4 feature Dr. John Breeding. I googled him and he is thought to be a Scientologist who advocate anti-psychiatry and anti-psych medication. It certainly is a compelling veiwpoint...I am just wondering who at OU decided to have students view this particular psychologist. I am curious if they know he is viewed in a controversial manner.

Certainly, being a nurse who works in psychiatry I have found to be quite interesting...because we certainly do medicate people, more than enough. My youngest patient was 4 years old, which I found to be ridiculous. There was nothing wrong with this child. But, I don't think we can say that schizophrenia or bi-polar disorder does not exist at all and no one should be medicated ever. I find that fairly controversial and interesting to say the least.

I can honestly say that I watched his lips move - and that was about it. Sounded like a bunch of meaningless gobbledygook to me. - and I am not a psych med fan - I think they are way overused and for the most part have little posititve effect.

Haha, I can tell. I have the same problem, you try and try to make sense of the topics and then I lost 1/2 point for misspelling one word in 16 pages. It is nonsense!!! My paper ended up being ten pages, already much more than some of my other peers I have talked too. You are right, 15 pages deserve a very HIGH A!! No other class can be as bad as this. The next five weeks I am taking strategic planning and diversity. I'm thinking that strategic planning is probably similar to management and I have high hopes for diversity since I usually enjoy that topic. One can dream right?

OK peeps....has anyone seen the amount of information that rubric asks for in week 4's assignment? And they want the paper to be only 2 pages long!!! Is it me?? Really?

I thought that was...interesting also. I enjoyed listening to his ideas, as I'm positive we do over-diagnose and likely over-medicate some people. However, I thought he was pretty "off the beaten path" for this audience...and it's not even a mental health class, per se...

Yowza! Just looked - I am using an agency that is staffed by volunteers - and I have no idea what a community health nurses' role would be ... lol. Hmmm, I can probably BS something out. Brief is the key word here michelemybell - should be interesting, right??!!

Yes brief meaning almost 3 pages....but that's what I ended up with after answering all the questions. Oh well, can't wait to see how my TA reacts to this! No more stressing over it.

I agree with much of what he had to say...after I got past the sheer drudgery of his voice. Not a candidate for public speaking, lol. I did organize my desk while he rambled on from his soap box. However, I found the whole thing a very odd choice for a nursing class...bizarre in fact.
