I've lived here all my life, and these just make me crazy on a daily basis:

"warsh" for wash

"pitcher" instead of picture (are you going to drink out of that photo?)

"feesh" instead of fish

"untollable" for intolerable

and my favorite:

"mute" instead of moot (It always makes me laugh when I hear that song Jessie's Girl and he says "I want to tell her but the point is probably moot" because I think of someone saying Mute instead. -ok, i'm easily amused)

AHHHHHH because it's soda! haha I'm a native Ohioan but saying "pop" just drives me batty.

I am not about to comb over this thread, but back home I hear "crick" instead of "creek" and my grandfather used to say "chimley" instead of "chimney".

soooo true!!! I was born & raised in Southern Ohio (Zanesville), & moved to the Akron area about 6 years ago. One of the first things a lot of people asked me (and still do!) is WHERE are you from?? I didn't even realize I had an accent!!

Now, after visiting home or talking to family on the phone, my own accent gets alot stronger for a while. Or if I get really excited.

Yep, my dad still fixes the RUFF, takes the DAWG to the vet, and WARSHes the dishes.

Also, you know you're from Ohio if people don't come over--they come on DOWN or UP depending on geographic location.

And I don't know if it's just an Ohio thing or not, but the very first thing a lot of people say on the phone is "what are you doing?"

Love the thread. I am from NE Ohio, but my cousins are from Southern. Growing up, it was always going down home. Also Mom would say "kittle" for kettle. They visited me once in California and asked for a kittle and my ex-wife just looked puzzled. Not to mention collar for color. BTW back in Ohio to stay....
