What color is your stethoscope tubing?

Nurses Uniform/Gear

I know, silly question :) But I'm starting school this Fall and will be buying my first stethoscope. I wanted to get a fun color, and to my knowledge, our school doesn't specify that we get black. Who has a crazy/fun color?

Burgundy....not exactly a crazy color but it's not black. ;)

My school suggested that we first get the double sprague type scopes - the ones that cost like $15-20. They ordered them with our uniforms and they were all black. After we started the program, though, they said we could get our own if we wanted but to watch out so no one stole them.

I got a royal blue Littmann my junior year. It was different without being too cutesy. Plus not many other people chose that color - most got navy, burgundy, hunter green, etc.

I have a sprague that I used for several years when I first became an EMT that I had one teal tube and one magenta tube (you can order replacement tubing for spragues). Now I have a Littman with gray tubing, but I always have a stethoscope cover on. Some places don't allow them, but I think they're great. I wash mine very frequently so they're not a biohazard. They are inexpensive and lots of designs (holidays, seasonal, fun patterns). They also keep my stethoscope from irritating the back of my neck (when it's hot) and there is absolutely no question ever as to which stethoscope is mine. Plus it's a great conversation piece with patients. I have a couple dozen of these stethoscope covers. I store them in a shoe box- they don't take up much space.

Probably you will want to figure out what type of stethoscope you want first, then see what your choices for colors are. Good luck!!

My tubing is hunter green. I just got something to hopefully distinguish it between others in class.

I have a hunter green Littman Classic II SE and a ceil blue Littman Lightweight II SE.

I agree with the pp about the scope covers. Contact with your skin, sweat, oils etc can break down your scope's tubing. I actually make my own scope covers. Then you can have any pattern or color you'd like :)

One sprague hunter green, on lit that is royal blue. I have some other ones that are black, grey, and pink that I got from family as a nursing present! The one I use most is the lit that is royal blue, its my fav...light and fits around my neck very well! :)

burgundy littman. My mom chose the color, but I like it.

purple sprague with purple ear tips and a purple and white id tag.

in nursing school i had a red sprague. we had to buy our nursing school uniforms from a specific uniform store full of very unhelpful salespeople. unless you questioned them about what was "required" they would make you buy what they wanted to sell you....black spragues, the tri-color click pens, white penlight, etc....the salesperson was all put out that i wanted a different color of stethoscope. what can i say, i guess i'm just a little bit of a pia of a customer who wasn't going to be forced to buy a color just because that is what the store owner thinks we should buy.:icon_roll
