What's a good stethoscope? I got accepted into nursing school and my husband bought me this one..in a raspberry color. As you can tell, I'm new to this :/

Should I get a cheaper one to use for school? I've heard that other people sometimes borrow and you leave it places. This way I won't be too mad if I loose a cheap one lol

I haven't started nursing school yet but I do work at a hospital and I would recommend buying a name tag for it. I remember a physician came in to consult on a patient and borrowed one of my coworkers' stethoscope and almost took off with it! I have a Littmann Classic S.E. II and I keep it in my pocket as opposed to hanging around my neck. They also sell holsters that clip your stethoscope onto your waist like those cell phone holders. I haven't used a cheap stethoscope for lung sounds but I've heard there is a noticeable difference compared to a good stethoscope.

Littman's are great and it is what I use in school (though I have the Littman lightweight, which is tad cheaper than yours, but works great). I honestly didn't use it that much during the first semester of clinicals but as the above poster said I recommend buying a name tag for it and keep tabs on it.

When you start school, ask if that one sdided bell will be ok. A lot of school prefer the Dual-sided bell.

This one isn't dual sided? I don't even know the difference between them yet lol...have to do some research

Yes that is a very good stethoscope. You should get your name engraved on it. My nursing program allows any kind of stethoscope. You should email the advisor and explain that your stethoscope does not have a bell and see if that is acceptable in that program. There really is no need to buy another one unless your program won't allow that one. This link should help you understand the different types of stethoscopes:

needless to say, littmann has the best quality stethoscopes in all prices and levels to accommodate any medical needs, having said that, nothing can't compare to my littmann cardiology iii in my humble opinion...just saying :cool:

No matter where u go whether it's school or working in a hospital just keep an eye in it and don't loan it out. Don't get a cheap one bc of scumbags lol. Maybe get it engraved? Thts helpful :)

A lot of my classmates love their Littmans and have them engraved. Honestly I never had a Dr ask to borrow mine. I stick mine in my pocket since it wouldn't fit in my holder (I have a Welch Allyn).
