Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

I started that day too which instructor do you have?

First day is NRS 434v. Woo hoo

Thank You! That was helpful! Seriously... though. I think they should hire you guys @ GCU for an advice... and y'all are funny.

I look at group projects differently----More concerned about doing well on my papers....thus a low Group project mark won't affect me....which never happened....but I was never overly concerned about the final group project....made sure it was not a complete gaggle....but not going to lose sleep over it....Why work extra hard when it really wont lower my mark....just play the game, and be concerned on what you can control....ur work.....part of playing the game--if their work is complete crap..plagiarism..then u throw it back at them....thus if they don't do it....u have covered ur butt! But I sure would not be doing their work for them..why make ur life more difficult/stressful....thats why u ensure the deadlines give everyone plenty of time to take care of that...

So I noticed my first Prof seems to really like when people comment about spiritual experiences and needs. I am spiritual but I feel weird because I am not super hard core like others in the class seem to be.

OMG someone in Ethics just used termpaper warehouse as a reference for their DQ! Seriously?!?!?! I have also seen a lot of wikipedia references in this program. Wowza!

In response to the questions about breaks, I take as many as I am allowed. I take 2 weeks between each class and I plan to use all the 60 day breaks as well. Working fulltime and being a mom I am sure I would go completely insane without it. I wish I was private pay because I would be on a break right now. My kids are out of school and we are closing on a house on July 2. I am counting the minutes til my current class ends on June 28th. It is probably a good thing I'm not private pay. I would probably take 5 years to get my BSN.

I'd like to say "unbelievable" about the TPW reference (as well as the StudyMode's you will undoubtedly see), but I can't. Shocking, but not unbelievable! Oy.

I'm with you on the breaks, I'd have lost my marbles without them. I'm sure you know this, but those 60 day-ers require an application and approval from the Univ, and you have to apply BEFORE the end of your current class. I was denied one because I didn't apply in time (and I was private pay! What the?)

Yay on the new house!

That's weird, I never experienced that, even in Spirituality class. I'm similar to you; I'm definitely spiritual but in my own private way - not willing to document all my innermost feelings on a public random DQ board!

Are you always in the same classes with the first students you start with for the most part?

I think I only ran into a familiar name once or twice, even when I did classes back-to-back. There are so many jillions of students and classes that start Q-Monday it's no wonder. That, however, can be a good thing, `cause typically I didn't want to have to worry about getting stuck in the same CLC with the same peeps!

Before I got switched out of a class because the instructor was off the wall and taking a break I had many of the same classmates in each class. Once I was switched out of that "track" the people were new. Not all of them but many were the same. Now I see some similar in the last 3 classes but unfortunately they were lazy..

I have worried about this ever since I applied to a "Christian" university and noticed I had to take a class called spirituality... If I have to bare my feelings I am going to make people really uncomfortable.......

I have someone that responded to one of my DQ today that has to have come from somewhere. I actually spent time searching (why spend my time wisely and do my paper due Sunday) but could not find where it was pulled from. Had nothing to do with my post, they just took a keyword from my post and gave me a brief history of that topic. Really torqued me off so I was going to turn it in if I could find it was a cut and paste.

Not to worry, there is no requirement or even (in my experience) a feeling of obligation to do so. There were those "Praise the LORRRRD!" posts but I just cruised right on by those. I couldn't help but think that ppl may be posting that stuff to get some kind of gold star? The Spirituality class is just that - it focuses on individuals' (patients) spirtual side, whatever that may mean to them, and how the nursing profession should acknowledge and respect a patient's individuality as it benefits their healing process. I learned a lot in that class; it was dry but kinda fascinating in a way.
