Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

Category: Tip 'o The Day...Bought a new truck tonight, and guess what? Got an extra $500.00 discount for being a recent grad! Husband said he thinks it's nation-wide and most dealerships, not 100 percent sure but sure worth the ask if you're in the market for a new vehicle :)

2015 RAM 1500 LONGHORN CREW CAB 4X4. I'm a truck girl, ever since my first 1983 basic Toyota with no carpeting, no air, and no radio lol. This new truck is like a spaceship inside, one could actually live in it I think. Husband says he thinks I may be getting too old to be climbing in/hopping out of such a big truck, but I don't care what he thinks. I will get a car when I HAVE to (but I'll still get the cool accessories for my 02 tank and mobility scooter... with a flames paint job, or course)

I was looking at this truck as well (except a Diesel)l!! I am a Dodge guy to the end. Decided that even though I need a truck right now it is more important to have an economical car to go back and forth to work. Waiting for the 2016 Dodge Darts to come out. Going to order one with everything!!!

I think that getting a truck is great! What ever you want cause you work for it!!!! The scooter is a nice choice as well though.... No air conditioning though, considering the region you live this might be a necessary addition...

Nice truck. When we bought our 2011 Honda CRV, did all the negotiating online! Car forums are awesome...I found a great Honda forum where it had a a forum that was centered on what u paid for your CRV.....and of course the prices differ all over the country. But I found a fair # in the DC area, so I had a good idea on what I should pay. Plus truecar.com was a bit of help as well. Plus being in the DC area, there were well over 20 Honda dealerships....Simply set them all an email, stating the exact model and trim level I wanted...wanted their best out the door cash price....plus a few other instructions.....I called the top 5 quotes, to make sure they realized I was a genuine buyer. And walked away with a great price! Simply walked into the dealer, signed our name, quick test drive to make sure there were no issues, easiest car buying experience ever. No salesman pressure tactics, nothing! Even had 1 salesman say I was lying on what I bought it for. Many say all dealers are close in price, that wasn't my experience with the CRV. Enjoy the new truck.

Congrats on the new wheels, Prism! I love pick up trucks. I wish we had one. We have a very old and kid tested Expedition and a Subaru Outback. I looove that car.

I bet hubby got a smash'n good deal. :)

I stand corrected..her initial adviser told her that it was a good possibility because of her 2 certs that it would mean less classes....wrong!!

I don't know why I was thinking this tonight, but I was, so I want to share. For all of you that are just starting, mid-way through, ¾ through, or almost done… and heading straight into that brick wall we all hit and want to just chuck it all… Try to let go of the frustration. I know it's a tall order, but hindsight is 20/20 you know, and now that I'm done I realize that I gave the stress and frustration way too much power over me. I stressed like Stress was a class that I needed to get an A+ in (like all the other ones, of course). I turned into a DQ machine, and made my papers seem like they were the most important thing in my life for the 2-3 days I took to make them just right”. I am NOT a fan of Cs get Degrees”, but honestly? I worked too hard. And I only know that now that I'm done. The grading model does appear to be set up that one can get a very good grade for a technically subpar paper, and I did catch onto that fairly early on, so I do wonder occasionally why I nearly killed myself over every single one. Was I going for a Pulitzer? I'm not even sure some instructors even read my papers. I'm not saying become a slacker, but I did not create a work/school/life balance, and I wish I had. I have some nieces and nephews and siblings and a mom that I'm trying to get to re-know” after being absent for nearly 2 years. My mother looks so much older to me than I remember, and it makes me sad that I missed so many opportunities with her – even if it was just a Subway sandwich at a picnic table at the park for an hour – I didn't take the time. I wish I had a do-over; I'd make a few different choices. I don't want you to have the same regrets that I have now.

Anyway, for what it's worth, plow-ON, just get it done, and it doesn't have to be perfect. And when it IS done it will seem like a distant memory. The agony of it all fades pretty quickly; it seems like forever already that I've been done even though it was only 4/19 that I clicked that submit button for the last time.

Thank you Prism for taking the time to write that wonderful post and put it all in perspective for those of us still slugging away!

I so needed to read your post because I am at the brick wall halfway point. A little more than one week left of Spirituality, which is my 6th class, and I am so sick of spending every weekend writing my "Type A Perfectionist" papers or rewriting/editing the entire CLC project! You must be my twin separated at birth because I am also that person who will not turn in sub par work even though I know the majority of the class is turning in a pile of crap. I could not believe it yesterday when I received and read the peer paper I was assigned to review. There was no abstract, no thesis statement, nothing was cited, no references (instructions said use a minimum of 6), no reference page, no headings (as we were specifically instructed to use), and written at the level of maybe an 8th grader! Hey, and on a positive note - very easy for me to review and critique!!

This is the first class that I really do believe that some of the instructors are not even reading the papers, as you pointed out. He posts our grades exactly one week after the due date (he even pointed out that he contractually has up to 7 days to post them). He waits until the end of the 7th day and then gives everyone the same standard comment in the comment box with no comments/revisions on the paper. This I know for a fact because one of my friends is taking the course with me and we compare comments! We have both received 100's on every assignment and with the exact same comments.

And I am killing myself for this?!! Eating a pile of crap because I am stress eating, not exercising, not sleeping, spending way too much time on trying to come up with the "perfect" paper and just like you said - making these papers the most important thing in my life for 2-3 days.

Wish I knew how to dial it back. On the last CLC, I tried to lay low but it was the proverbial crickets and I didn't want to go down on a sinking ship. I had to get everyone going. Is there some kind of slacker pill I can take?!! LOL

Ok, rant over! Maybe I will try going to bed at a reasonable hour tonight...

Thanks again Prism - your words really hit home and I am going to make an effort to try to enjoy life a little more.

I am curious since I am in the same boat, Ianoneus....did GCU iron out this issue for you? They told me that I needed 11 classes (I have Bachelors level statistics) and when I logged in I saw 15!!!!

They told me I needed 11 because I already had stats but then a few month in the 12 random class pops up and I can test out if it. The explanation I got was you need a minimum of 12 upper division 300-400 level classes to complete this program. It happened to a bunch of people in my class all at the same time. Ask you advisor they should be aware of it and good luck
