Nursing Students Online Learning

This is not really an informative thread I guess, but here it goes. I have been a member her for quite a few years, I think my profile says 2004, but it was before that b/c I was a member here before that but I forgot my old username. And, eventhough I have quite a few issues with it AN, is wat led me to my current path, at Excelsior. Before AN I don't think I had ever even heard of EC.

Anyway, to my point, in all of the time I spent here I've seen a lot of distance students come and go. Some, some stayed at EC but just faded away from ere, some just graduated and left the DL board (CONGRATS to all of them btw), some graduated and left AN completely, and some dropped out and choose a different path and left AN. This also goes for the other DL programs, like Deaconess.

Now, I spend a lot of time just coming to the board and looking. Most of the time I don't have the time to post, sometimes I just like to observe. But, I've noticed that I just don't see the types of posts tat I used to. Or maybe it's just me.

Okay, now really on to my point. I know that this at times can make students feel alone (I know I do). I mean I don't anyone to study with, but just "knowing" who your classmates are is nice. Now there is always EPN for EC students, but I personally don't care for it much (too much to deal with with pop ups and all), and therefore, don't go on it unless I'm am looking for a specific answer (which I usually don't find).

So this thread is just for us all to chime in, so everyone knows they are not alone in our own element of AN so to speak.

I encourage everyone of us to chime in and keep everyone aware of your progress every now and then.

Hi everyone! I check in periodically when my stress gets the best of me.. I work for a school district (hoping for a snow day tomorrow!) So, I am typically more involved with the forum in the summer months. This summer I'm hoping to be more involved with my EC exams. I work Mon-Fri and it's difficult to stay motivated. I take my first test on Saturday and plan on scheduling NC 3 as soon as I pass NC 1.... (Lunah was so right about scheduling the exams!)

This sight for me was a big deciding factor on going with EC. The support here is wonderful, and it's great to read everyone's progress and experience.

Gonna bump this thread.....

When I log on I notice that the NCLEX Discussion forum is right below this one. Man, I can't wait to be on there discussing taking the NCLEX-RN. :yeah::yeah:

Guys, I know if we can get through these exams we sure can pass the NCLEX, EC uses NCLEX styled questions. If you haven't already everyone should get an NCLEX-RN book, Saunders and Kaplan are among the best. I don't really like Davis, but it's an individual choice.

Read the questions that corresponds with the material that is similar to the EC exam your taking and that REALLY helps too.:typing:typing:typing Study on!!!

Yea the NCLEX will be a breeze after the CPNE

I am so not EVEN worried about the NCLEX! LOL! Doesn't mean I won't study for it, but sheesh. :D

I come and look a lot also. I'm so mad at myself I took the Lifespan test exactly one year ago and I have been waiting until I pay for this or that before committing the money that I need to get the program done. Last week even though it caused a hardship I paid half on one of the test. I have to prioritize and get this done. Thanks for the kick in the pants I needed.

How did any of you get through NC 7 this material is so boring. I can't stand it's driving me crazy. This is my last test until the cpne, and I can't to seem to want to study for it. I do not enjoy this stuff at all. Help me!

LOL! Yeah, it's certainly not the most exciting subject matter, that's for sure! I read the Chancellor's guide, listened to the audio for that, and did the EC practice tests (which I highly recommend). I also read through Lisa Arends' notes a few days before testing. You might want to check flashcardexchange.com and see if anyone has any good NC7 flashcards out there.

Just remember what comes next to get you motivated!! You're so close to being done! Good luck. :)

I check in like twice a week which is not good enough. I am a mom of 3 little boys and worked 40 nights a week in LTC. I quit the job recently and started working Baylor, so I should have more time to post now.

I graduated August 2007, took NCLEX Sept 2007. I enrolled in Excelsior Oct 10 and took my first exam Oct 18 under the new curriculum. I have taken six nursing exams and have one more to go plus Micro, sociology and Info literacy. I plan to be done with them by the end of March.

I plan to attend a workshop but I am torn between Lynn's and Tina's. Lynn's because its in my town, and Tina's because its five days and I am a new nurse with little clinical experience. I am scared of CPNE, I guess a workshop will help my confidence.

nursemomof3boys - Wow! You certainly have accomplished a whole lot in a matter of a few months! I am truly inspired by your story! and jealous because I still have all my NC's to do and 3 cleps. I've been enrolled since Oct. as well and have no kids and only work 35 hrs a week.

Good job on everything you've done!:yeah:

Do you have the audio for nc7, and if so would you like to sell it. I do a lot of driving it would be good for me . I have lisa arends notes already. I always do ec's practice tests.

Thanks in advance!

I check in here daily, too, even though I'm in the CPNE-wait holding pattern. :) It's so much fun to watch everyone's progress! I never thought I'd be the one waiting on the CPNE. I enrolled in July of 2006, but didn't take my first exam (A&P) until May 2007. I didn't even take an exam that required enrollment until I had been enrolled for nearly a year! Whoops. Live and learn.

Lunah, please tell me why you said this because I was planning on taking as many classes as I could (gen eds) before paying the enrollment fee. Why did you say live and learn? What is wrong with that, or what does it do or not do for you if I go that route?

thanks

I could have saved myself $440 in annual fees. When you enroll and pay the $895, that starts the clock ticking ... one year after that, you owe a $440 annual student services fee. The longer you can put off enrolling, the less likely it is that you'll have to pay the annual fee on the anniversary of your enrollment, depending on how quickly you move through the program. And if I had actually STARTED when I enrolled, I would have already been done!!! I procrastinated. Oh well. :)
