CPNE in Columbus Nov 4-6...this really bites!

Well, I was SUPPOSED to test in Amarillo Sept 23-25, but after driving 1100 miles they call me that morning to tell me the hospital moved to disaster status and the exam was cancelled because of the hurricane (though the hurricane was nowhere near Amarillo, the hospital was owned by a comany in Houston and they automatically followed their hospital's policy...Plano, however, which saw many more evacuees, was not cancelled...)

Well, now they have scheduled me for Columbus Nov 4-6. I would like to know if anyone knows anything about this site and the name of the hospital?

Specializes in ICU, step down, dialysis.

Columbus, Ohio??

Columbus, Ohio??

Yes.

I took my CPNE in Columbus in Oct 1999. It was at Ohio State Univ. and also at Children's. The instructors were very professional. Remember to measure I/O's carefully and chart everything! Good Luck!

Did they compensate any of the students for their travel time??? To wait several months and be canceled after traveling several miles.....that is a bad!

They are supposed to compensate for the price of a plane ticket. But that doesn't make up for a 2200 mile round trip by car. Man, I drove a total of four days to get to that thing! And I got up the morning of the test all ready to go, then they called and told me to go home. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. The testing center told me the only other time they have ever had to cancel a test was the week of 9-11.

I know one of the other testers who was cancelled. I think she was even angrier than I was. I was actually too shocked to be angry, the let down is just so overwhelming. Like one of those dreams where you can "almost" reach your goal but you never quite make it.

So here I go to Ohio. I've heard they are tougher there, but who knows. I feel like I know my stuff so it's just a matter of not getting tense and messing up. Now I will be very lucky to make the December graduation date (I was supposed to graduate Nov. 18)

I wanted to get into the U of Wyoming's online nursing program but who knows if I will make it in time...what a mess....

Now that bites. I feel bad for you.

But Amarillo?

The almost farthest possible place in TX away from the hurricane!

We all evacuated to Dallas and were fine and Amarillo is another zillion miles northwest!!

So if the Tenet or HCA hospitals in Houston went into disaster mode as well, and I'm assuming that they did, does that mean that their hospitals in Kansas or Colorado should be prepared for a hurricane as well?

Crazy.

So sorry that happened to you.

Specializes in Tele, Home Health, MICU, CTICU, LTC.

Best of luck to you LPNtoRN on your travels to Ohio and getting this CPNE over and done with. I feel bad that it has been such a struggle for you to get to this CPNE. I also think EC should provide some sort of compensation for those who traveled so far only to be cancelled. Especially since I read that Amarillo is so far away from the places where the hurricane hit.

Specializes in ER, IICU, PCU, PACU, EMS.

Good luck to you LPNtoRN - let me know about your CPNE....

Smile! It could be worse.....you could also be 34 weeks pregnant and moving into a new house 5 days before the exam!!!

I'm so happy I was scheduled to take it that weekend also. Now I don't have to worry about the CPNE test taking stress.....I don't have the time for it!!

Oh well....I'm sure others have been worse off!! ( hopefully I won't go into labor before or during the exam!!!)

Best wishes

How did your clinical go in Ohio? Hope all went smoothly, especially after waiting...then being cancelled, and wating more! I think the college should have reimbursed your time/travel for your trip...especially if the hospital wasn't in the hurricane areas.
