A big, fat CPNE failure here

I'm on my way home.

Failed PCS one bacuse while I did everything perfectly I didn't write down the reason I chose my priority nursing diagnosis.

Failed numbee 2 because, while I checked the guys skin under the NC I didn't document it.

Failed IV push on a dummy because they said I was going too fast.

I'm going home. And they didn't have to fail me on the lab. I WAS pushing at the correct rate.

I'm down in Elmira. Two hours from Rochester, two and a half from Buffalo, one from Binghamton.. four and a half from Pittsburgh or Philly...

Okay, now I get it. We've actually looked for land around there but now that I have a job I like we're staying put. There's not much more in the way of hospitals there, either.

Ah, the trade-offs of rural vs. urban. But I've been assimilated. I couldn't take a city again - hell, Glens Falls is too congested for me.

Me, too, and I say that about Elmira and Corning... too danged many people!

We don't have a huge volume of facilities, but opportunities for RN's are pretty plentiful. There are a lot of clinical offices (sports medicine, oncology, women's health, etc) that aren't located at the hospitals themselves, but they all require nurses. Elmira has two hospital/medical centers, Corning has one. Binghamton has several, and one of them, Lourdes I believe, has Magnet status. Guthrie-Robert Packer isn't far away, either. They're a large facility that I completely forgot about! But we are largely rural, indeed. I like it that way. We are thinking, however, of jumping ship from the high taxes to the beauty and the low taxes of the Carolina mountains. Visited there several times and it is just stunning. Lots of opportunity, too, from what I'm reading.

Taxes are killing us, combined with evening temps regularly below zero. We only turned the heat off this week and today is June. Fueld KILLED us this year, plus everythingis trucked in to the one grocery store we have - WalMart. And the next closest is 30 miles away.

My brother lived in NC for awhile. There were aspects he loved, but you do have to be prepared to be in the Bible Belt, unless you're thinking say Asheville or Raligh.

Actually, we were looking at both! I love both areas. I'm originally from southern VA, very close to Roanoke Rapids, NC, towards the east. I love NC. I, like you, am about taxed to the max and I'm sick of it. I have family in the Durham/Cary area. Nice area. We went to Asheville/Hendersonville this past October for a week, and just fell in love with it. It's perfect for us. We talk about mmoving about every week, and the only think NOW that's keeping us here is school. But after that...!

I have guilt keeping me in the NE. Aging parents. From whom I am too far. GUILT!

I'd certainly like four seasons with milder winters.

I know! There are tons of reasons to go. And my mom is a major one to stay. She's in Steuben County, and I just can't pick up and leave her here. She'd have my sibs, of course, but ...!

I'm the only sib. My sister lives with them but has schizophrenia, and my brother has made it plain that he wants no responsibilty for them. And Dad is starting to show signs of dementia and Mom's name is Cleopatra. She knows, but won't get him to the doctor.

*sigh*

I need to be here for now. The Carolinas are just too far to get there in ana fternoon, y'know? And last year BOTH of Mom's sisters ended up in the hospital at the same time and for once, "I'll be down to help" was NOT met with, "No, no." Just, "When will you be here?"

I know what you mean about needing to be there now. I really do. This is my home for now, too. Who's to say for the future though, right? I'm sorry your Mom and Dad are going through stuff; that's a tough road ahead for them. Hugs to you. (((((you))))).

I am so sorry to hear that you were UNSUCCESSFUL. I like that word better than the F word. Don't be discouraged, you still have another shot. I know that is not much comfort, but this test is very hard and stressful. Best wishes.

I failed my first CPNE and I was a mess. I sailed through it the second time and I was more scared than the first time. Good Luck.
