I have been working in the medical management arena (insurance, TPA) for the past 8 years and currently in a supervisory position. I am thinking of going back into patient care for three reasons. (1)-miss taking care of and talking to the patients. I used to feel like I was making an impact with the patient care when I was doing case management, but don't feel that anymore as a Utilization Managment supervisor. (2)-long hours: I currently work 50-60 hrs/wk and have a two hour round trip commute. By the time I get home I am brain dead and having difficulty absorbing all the reading required for EC. (3)-start prepping for CPNE-since I have been out of the clinical setting for so long, I want to make sure I am ready to take care of the patient when the time comes.

I live in the DFW area and don't see too much for LVN's anymore. Any fellow Texans out there have suggestions?

Baylor uses LVNs? That's good to know. I don't see much on Career Builder's website for hospital LVNs.

baylor hours meaning work double weekends - 32 hours and get paid for 40. i work this schedule and have for many years. there are several hospitals that still hire lvn's baylor in grapevine i know uses lvn's but baylor -all saints and baylor downtown are all rn.

i know fr 100% sure that huguley hospital ,wall regional and jps hires lvn's. i think that plaza does as well...there are butt loads of rehab hospitals and many ltc's that hire lvn's.

thanks for the clarification. i will look into those facilities. i have been seeing ads for denton rehab and nursing center but i don't know anything about them.

I did clinicals at Denton Rehab and Nursing. I loved it. They are privately owned and they really love their residents. They also have another facility that they own in Plano. It's called Prestonwood Rehab and Nursing. I would consider working for either of those, but I live in Sherman, so it's a bit of a drive.

I'm not a Texan, but I just returned to LTC bedside nursing after several years in progressively more responsible management positions, and it's GREAT!!!! I wish I'd done this a year ago........no on-call, no taking work home, and no 50-60 hour weeks. My stress level has dropped from a 12 (on a 0-10 scale) to about a 1.5.......and I love interacting with the residents and really knowing them as human beings.

Don't be afraid---just do it! You won't regret it.
