Parkland NICU or L&D resident summer 2013 applicants
Did any of you have a recruiter named *****? I applied for the L&D residency in April and never heard anything or received any e-mails. Today, (Saturday of all days!!) I got a voicemail from a ***** that wants to speak to me on Monday. There were several positions that I applied to at the time, but was really hoping it was for the L&D residency.

Does everyone feel like they can't do it?
I have been an LVN for 3 years and recently completed my RN transition. I worked for 3 years for an OB/GYN. I loved my job and was even able to become his surgical assistant and assisted with C/S and other Gyn surgeries. That was my favorite part of the job. Earning my RN was my goal though and unfortunately he was not able to afford an RN and unfortunately I had student loans and a family to support so I decided to move on. This has proved very difficult because again, I loved my job. I have been head strong at using the experience I have and trying to find my way into L&D. I got a job in post partum at the hospital that I had done our C/S cases at. 3 months later our unit was closed, so I was able to find a position for an RN at a large OB/GYN group but it was 60 miles away and was only for phone triage. The pay was good, but I missed patient contact and the OR. I've applied to several residency programs, most I won't qualify for because I did my RN transition through Excelsior and don't have the clinical instructor letter of recommendations. The one great opportunity I had, I blew because I failed the math exam. I'm not one to make excuses but I had an unimaginable migraine that day and was not able to reschedule. I recently took a job closer to home but it is in Tele/Stroke floor. I dread every day. I have panic attacks at home and cry on the way to work each morning. I'm still being preceptored and this is what I'm doing! I am severely depressed because I am in an area that I am not at all interested in. I miss the passion I felt. I took this job with the attitude that if I put in the time, I can transfer at some point. I feel pathetic because I've never been one to feel like I can't do something but I feel out of control here. It scares me to death to think that I am going to be on my own soon. Is this a common new nurse feeling? I know it will get better when I get more comfortable but it's killing me in the mean time!

Parkland Critical Care Nurse Residency Sept 2012
Still haven't heard anything from L&D. I've interviewed but just waiting to hear back. Going NUTS!

Parkland Critical Care Nurse Residency Sept 2012
If you applied to more than one posting then you will get a denial for the other postings. Don't worry too much about it.

Parkland Critical Care Nurse Residency Sept 2012
Has everyone heard back either yes or no? I applied for the L&D residency and haven't heard either way yet. Hoping that is good news!!

So upset, another fail!
I used a Lippincott Manual of Nursing Practice to study. It helped a LOT! I had it left over from LVN school and it was a life saver. It leaves out a lot of the excess and it was easier for me to study from.

cpne eligibility
It's an online class taken through the Excelsior Website. Basically it's learning about information sources and how to look up things. The next class is offered in November.

Wait time for CPNE
I'm in Texas so that would be nice but I'll go wherever if it means shaving some time!

Wait time for CPNE
Has anyone recently received their date for CPNE? How long is it taking. I'm about to be finished with examinations and wondering how long I should plan to wait. I had heard its 6-8 month wait, which is frustrating because I chose EC because I could get it done quickly. I could have saved a lot of money by going to CC. Thanks!

Lvn @ Nctc
You only wear your whites when you go to clinicals. If you're in class, just wear khaki's.

Ahh, I wish I would have heard from you before. I just sold them!! Also, they're using a lot of different books now compared to when I started. Did they give you the book list yet? I suggest going to half.com and buying them online. They are much cheaper! I do have some patches and my uniforms if you're interested in those. I'm very interested in seeing how the online class goes. Keep me updated!

I lied! We do get our IV certification. We get it at graduation!

Back to patient care
I did clinicals at Denton Rehab and Nursing. I loved it. They are privately owned and they really love their residents. They also have another facility that they own in Plano. It's called Prestonwood Rehab and Nursing. I would consider working for either of those, but I live in Sherman, so it's a bit of a drive.
