Help FBI Fingerprints

Hi I'm currently a LPN for the last 5 years.. I've taken fingerprints and background checks and everything has been fine... anyway I've taken fingerprints last week for an RN program and I learned my FBI fingerprints didn't check out too well I have been arrested twice in the early 2000 for "domestic violence " and they were both dismissed but like I said I was arrested but since then I've been a CNA and I'm currently a LPN.. I'm hoping this doesn't stop my chances of starting school... I'll be devastated.. so I had to sign for the school to get my rap sheet and I was honest listing the 2 arrests... I'm just so scared☹️☹️☹️

Now to answer your question.

You've done all you could do: you told the school about the arrests, now it's up to them. Be sure to answer any questions or requests for information promptly. Schools evaluate applicants with criminal records on a case-by-case basis. The fact that the charges were dismissed, plus the fact that the BON let you be a CNA and then a LPN, is encouraging. But ultimately the final decision is up to the school.

I would also consider talking to an attorney to see if any of this can be expunged from your record.

when you go to apply to boards just be totally honest and have all your documentation ready to submit, police reports, copies of dismissals and/or any cost or conditions met to present to the board. Because although you were an CNA and now an LPN for your RN license you will have your finger prints ran again and FBI background so although dismissed EVERYTHING will surface again. BUT dont give up just be proactive, have your documentation, letters of recommendation so do great in clinicals and ask your letters of recommendation, ready push forward. Show remorse, own it, and no additional issues since then. Good luck

I just feel like there's information we're not getting here. Why in the world would the FBI (I assume you mean the Federal Bureau of Investigation) be interested in domestic violence charges and have your fingerprints on file? The fact that you use "domestic violence" in quotations plus the addition of the FBI involvement makes me wonder what in the world you've really been into since becoming an LPN. And referring to your arrest record as your "rap sheet" makes you sound like a career criminal. Just saying.

For states like CA even if someones records are expunged or old the BON or other entities will request fingerprints from the DOJ who gets their information from the FBI database. The FBI then sends a cumulative "rap sheet" from any states or federal agencies. All this information can be found on the oag(office of the attorney general) website. I don't agree with you assuming because the poster called their arrest record a "rap sheet" that they're a career criminal. If you do a simple search on the oag website they refer to arrest records as rap sheet.

"If the applicant's fingerprints match fingerprints in the national criminal history database, the FBI sends the DOJ a cumulative RAP sheet that contains criminal history information from any states or federal agencies that have reported the information to the FBI." I copy and pasted this from the website.

Any time you are arrested, or have your fingerprints recorded by a federal or state agency, the FBI then has your fingerprints.
