Finally!!! An interview!

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Specializes in Cardiac Nursing.

i finally have an interview, and a nibble for a new grad program at the same hospital system. it's taken 3 years of constantly applying to various places, including this one.

i am cautiously optimistic and trying not to get my hopes up, but to get to this point is something i had almost given up on. the position is on a cardiac/telemetry unit, something i have prior lpn experience on. but i need to emphasize my desire to learn and grow as an rn first and foremost.

time to dust off my interview clothes and review interview questions.

Specializes in Operating Room, LTAC.

Congrats! I know what you mean...I recently graduated and passed boards, so now i'm in the same boat trying to job hunt. Before entering nursing school, I totally assumed finding a job would be a piece of cake...boy was I wrong. I'm just going to pray, stay positive and hope for the best.

Congrats once again, God Bless, and Good Luck on your interview!

thanks. it's a long, long time coming. i'm trying to be optimistic, but i'm actually really scared to get my hopes up.

Specializes in Medical Oncology, Alzheimer/dementia.

Best of luck to you. I just graduated in May. I hadn't interviewed in 10 years. It was intimidating, but I did well. I'm sure you will too, especially when they see your enthusiasm!

Specializes in LTC, MDS, EHR, HH, Nursing Management.

This job market is tough these days. I would almost pay a professional to rewrite my resume and help me find a job. It would be worth the cost just to be able to practice nursing.

my cousin asked me what i was wearing to the interview. i have nice suit that i call my main interview suit. i just hope it still fits as it's been a while since i last wore it and i've unfortunately gained some weight. i also have class that evening, so i scheduled the interview to be the same day to save on fuel. i can just go to campus afterwards and work on homework.

i'm also making a batch of business cards and will take a copy of my resume and personalize my cover letter for the manager i will be interviewing with. i just hope i make a good impression. if i get the job i will definately need a refresher course in reading strips.

is it being greedy to hope for an interview for the new grad program as well?

i don't think it's being greedy. an interview is just an interview, it is not a concrete job offer. until you have that job offer in hand, you are not obligated to anyone and i think it's smart to take advantage of all the options that may come your way. good luck with the interview! :)

Congratz wow 3 years I admire your tenacity! I was getting depressed after receiving no results for 3 months of Job Search. Do well, slepe prepare, plan to arrive 1 hr earlier than appt time so you have a buffer for unexpected situations just don't go in until the 10 min mark, sit in your car or some cafe outside. Prepare to answer scenarios, case studies, conflict, and why should we hire you, Good luck!
