Nurses Job Hunt

I started my first new grad job today with a community mental health organization. I found out from the head nurse that I beat out a two telephone book high stack of resumes for this job. Most were experienced candidates.

She told me one of the main reasons they picked me is because I demonstrated during the interview that I had done my homework on the organization and its functions. I was the only one that had! So that extra step in preparing yourself well really does make a difference, and hiring managers notice it.

Thanks for the info!

On a similar note, I read somewhere else that your cover letter should reference the facility's mission statement. It shows that you are specifically interested in their company, not just spamming.

This is good advice. Congratulations on your job!

However, I would love it if health care corporations would really live and follow their own beautiful, flowery mission statements.

so you did research on their organization and its functions. thats pretty cool. congratz... yes you do have to stand out it's what makes you get known.. it's like being a singer singing as a young girl like beyonce lets say as an example. when she got older she showed her talents. thats why she is what she is today..... she opened up her voice and searched for the truth.. congratz....

i know funny example but hey its similar..

I know, right? I bet though that the key words their software searches for in resumes are the ones in their mission statement. Anybody know if my guess is right?

I agree. NM love when you have researched the hospitals' mission, vision, goals, and accomplishments. Make it roll off your tongue.
