What is considered a failing grade in Practical Nursing school?

I asked a friend of mine (who is a Practical nurse here in Ontario) what grade you need in order to pass each semester in Nursing school. She said that you just need to pass with 50% in order to keep going. Is this true? I thought you need at least 75% in order to not fail a class.

It just depends on the school. Some schools have different policies than others in regards to these things.

My college had different requirements for different courses. Most were 80%, a couple required 100%. There were none with marks that low.

my school also had a 98.5% pass rate for passing. CPNRE on first writing

50% was a pass for tests anf assignments but you had to maintain 80% overall.Different schools will have different requirements.

65% at my school. Depends on the program.

I called the school I plan to apply at and they told me I need to have 60% on assignments and tests in order to pass. And 50% on the non nursing (general) courses. :)

Keep in mind that you should aim for at least 80 percent overall if you want to bridge to an RN program at a later date. More importantly, people who achieve the minimum at school often fail the board exam. 50-65 percent is not enough to master the material and learn to apply it in the workplace.

For sure!! I have been trying really hard and getting 80%s on the prerequisites and I plan to try really hard in nursing school and do just as well. :)

Good point Joanna. Some bridging programs require an average as high as 85%

In mine passing is 76%. And 75.999999% is failing.

Wow I see it varies greatly in Canada. In the U.S. most programs passing is 75-80%. But it makes sense to aim high rather aim for the minimum

Ours was 60% We had half our class graduate with distinction so just to keep that in mind if you're ever wanting to bridge. Our school has a 100% pass rate on the cprne for first write.
