Thinking twice before moving to Calgary from UK

World Canada

Published

Hi

Is there anyone from the UK planning to go to Alberta or any other province in Canada? I had a job offer from one of the hospitals in Calgary while i was on holiday there. The hospital condition is that i have to pass the RN exam and i have the choice to work as a graduate nurse( A grade) while i wait to write for the exam.

I have received a letter from CARNA ... nursing board for Alberta that i am eligible to take the RN exam soon. Now i am thinking first to go there and work as an A grade then take the exam or do the exam which is due in Oct 2008 then move there.

I wonder if there is anyone at present thinking of moving to Canada or in the process ...any suggestions or ideas welcome.

Bye

I just love Calgary. Magnificent country, changing climate (sometimes quite rapidly), and if you like the outdoors it's heaven.

Hey guys - am in Florida - girlie lunch anyone?? PM me!!! I'm about 1 hr 45 from Orlando (in Homosassa -45 mins North of Tampa) so maybe there's a place in the middle convenient to us all?? I fly to Calgary on August 24th so we have some time.

Had real fun getting here though - TWP never did arrive in the post, finally got a fax just hours before we had to leave the house & that was thanks to a phone call & someone on the Embassy switch board taking pity on me!!!

Specializes in Neurosurgery, Trauma/Ortho.
I'm going to Calgary too - have sent you a PM

Where are you looking exactly for a job?

I got my job offer for Foothill hospital in Calgary. Can i ask you why you are asking me that question?

Oh my!! I couldn't even have imagined in my wildest dreams how much there is to do!! I'm really glad I decided to take the later induction date!! I will definitely PM you to let you know when were up & running properly. My hubbie is fed up to the teeth of seeing flat packs!! He still has loads to go as well!! Of course it didn't help that my dear, darling 8 year old daughter thought that she should try the Calgary health service out from the inside!! She managed to crack a bone in her foot, after just 3 days in the country, on our friend's trampoline!! She chose a bright red cast initially but yesterday she managed to break that cast!!! YES you read it right BREAK the cast!!! Now she's sporting a bright orange one that was extra re-inforced by the doc (the same one who applied the failed 1st cast!) Have to say Alberta Children's Hospital is cool. Just could have done without spending all that time there at this stage!!However, all said & done our general impressions of Calgary are good. We have met the most friendly people here, the weather has been kind to us, for the most part. It's funny but even though the temp says whhat it does it feels warmer than you think compared to london. Today it said it was 55F but we were all in t-shirts in the sun. I've felt colder in 68F in London. Our friends say it's because it's so dry.The kids schools are awesome - well chosen by me! :-) I picked schools before house & seem to have chosen wisely on both accounts. I'm really glad we made the move, the kids are looking so healthy on the air already - the younger ones positively glow (& that's not just a reflection off DD's cast) from being outside so much. They're all finding the work very easy but that's not a bad thing because it means they can concentrate on settling in. The eldest is at High School & is very happpy with his choices. He likes the fact that he's treated as an adult & I hope (& think) he will flourish because of it. All the signs look good so far.
