  1. What should my raise be?

Hi everyone!

Currently I am an LPN with a small assisted living complex in BC Canada (50 beds). I started about 6 months ago and my role has been doing all the nursing stuff while managing the care aides (around 10) and doing 2 care aide shifts a week. My current pay is $25 an hour.

A few days ago my manager approached me and stated that he would like me to become the site manager as he is only on site one day a week and needs someone there all the time. My new job role would include my previous management of the care aides, my nursing duties, but I would no longer be doing the care aide shifts. I would also take on the responsibility of managing all the other departments (say another 10-15 staff), doing the site reporting to our health authority, as well as dealing with day-to-day problems.

My manager asked me to think about taking the job as he will not post it if I do not accept it. He asked me to come up with a salary that I thought was fair. I have no idea what to ask for in terms of a raise and would like your feedback! I would like to mention that there are some current management problems and would probably require a lot of phone calls after work and coaching current staff. They are not known for giving out raises for good work, so I would like the salary I ask for to be one I'm comfortable with, not one that I could later as for a raise on. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks everyone!!

Let me guess, non-union, for profit facility? Good luck, you are going to need it.

Yup, probably. I've worked in all areas of nursing. Whether it's the hospital, long term care, or assisted living they all have their problems. Union, non-union, doesn't matter - they all are extremely flawed! Yay BC health care. Just have to make do with what you have!

I don't know if I am not allowed to vote or its closed etc. but there is no option for me to press anything. All I can see are the results

Just in case anyone was wondering I received a raise of $7.50 :)
