Need help with salary
Yup, probably. I've worked in all areas of nursing. Whether it's the hospital, long term care, or assisted living they all have their problems. Union, non-union, doesn't matter - they all are extremely flawed! Yay BC health care. Just have to make do with what you have!

Medical supplies
Yes, my facility paid for the supplies but didn't have a supplier previously. I have since used Bower's medical to get my supplies. Thank you for your reply!

Need help with salary
Hi everyone! Currently I am an LPN with a small assisted living complex in BC Canada (50 beds). I started about 6 months ago and my role has been doing all the nursing stuff while managing the care aides (around 10) and doing 2 care aide shifts a week. My current pay is $25 an hour. A few days ago my manager approached me and stated that he would like me to become the site manager as he is only on site one day a week and needs someone there all the time. My new job role would include my previous management of the care aides, my nursing duties, but I would no longer be doing the care aide shifts. I would also take on the responsibility of managing all the other departments (say another 10-15 staff), doing the site reporting to our health authority, as well as dealing with day-to-day problems. My manager asked me to think about taking the job as he will not post it if I do not accept it. He asked me to come up with a salary that I thought was fair. I have no idea what to ask for in terms of a raise and would like your feedback! I would like to mention that there are some current management problems and would probably require a lot of phone calls after work and coaching current staff. They are not known for giving out raises for good work, so I would like the salary I ask for to be one I'm comfortable with, not one that I could later as for a raise on. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone!!

Medical supplies
Hi everyone, I recently started in a new facility (Assisted living) in BC Canada and I am wondering if anyone can tell me where they order their nursing supplies from? ie. dressing supplies, urine dip sticks, gowns, ect. There was never a full time nurse at this job before and their supplies are just awful. There isn't really anywhere locally that I can buy from as I'm in a rural location. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

LPN/LVN salary for 2013/2014
I live in BC canada and I started at 24.75 at the hospital in 2011. I was miserable there to be honest and dreaded going to work every day. It didn't help that you start off as a casual and get called to come in after a shift has started and the 12 hour shifts were not for me. I always felt like I had no idea what was going on and the nurses were mean! I moved to a LTC facility which was a huge improvement from the hospital. I worked there for 2 years but my facility was private and had a lot of shady management. I recently (3 months ago) left that job and started at an assisted living complex as their only LPN. Overall I'd say I'm in more of an administrative/supervisory/teaching role but I actually like coming to work now. I still get to utilize my clinical skills but am not just pushing pills all day. I now make $25 an hour; BC doesn't have a lot of fluctuation in the LPN pay. After my previous two jobs I had decided that nursing was not for me, but with this new job my feelings have changed. The important thing to learn is that you have to find out what is the best fit for you and to try a bunch of different venues before you give up. Good luck!

Tools for assessing dementia levels?
Hi everyone, I recently started a new job in an Assisted Living complex. My boss has asked that next week I do an assessment on a potential client and see if they are appropriate for assisted living. Since there wasn't really a full time nurse before I started a week ago, there are not really any protocols, paperwork or tools that I can access. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on papers that I could fill out to help me assess this potential client?? I am planning on doing a mini-mental, but anything else you could suggest would be great!! I don't have any information on her except that she may have some mild dementia, her family is expressing care giver burn out, and our provincial health system has not been helpful to them. Thanks in advance, Nicole

Canada to UK questions
This is my exact situation as well! I'm currently doing my LPN and have almost a full year before I can continue on with my RN and was wondering if I would be able to work overseas during that time? I was wondering if anyone knew what LPN roles are like/if there is anything like that overseas? My mum was born and raised in Scotland but I was born and raised in Canada. Any information would be great!

LPN to RN online school? Need help finding one?
Athabasca University is a major distance education college and they have lpn to bsn program. http://www.athabascau.ca/cnhs/ug_lpn_bn.php I am currently taking my LPN program and this is what my pn coordinator recommended. She said that it should be fairly easy up until the last year, because of how much is covered in the lpn program. For me, I'm just going to take some A&P courses and use that towards a bridge at Thompson Rivers University (Kamloops, BC). Good luck!
