Are you an LPN?

Hey everyone

Just wondering if you are an LPN what floor you work on or where you work. I start a PN course here in Canada and a few months so I was wondering.

Thank you

Specializes in NICU.

I am an RPN in Ontario,Canada and I work on a surgical oncology floor. Lots of GI, gyne surgery....acuity is high. Very busy floor. I love it!

I been an LPN/LVN for 29 years. I work Long-term care/Rehab. I tried to get into homehealth once....for some reason it is very difficult to go from Longterm care to home health....would not get hired. Almost went bankrupt when was doing Crisis care while trying to break into the Home health aspect ( which is what I really want). Oh well.

OP, which province are you in? It also depends on which hospital you wind up working in.

In Alberta, LPNs work pretty much everywhere. In my hospital none are in L&D or the ICU but in other cities they are there. NICU and Emerg has LPNs. The OR and Dialysis. The school immunization programme is full of LPNs. The Correctional System and Home Care as well.

So which province are you in

Yes the province you are in makes a difference...as here in Ontario I have never heard of an RPN in ICU, CCU...any critical care areas...most pediatrics and L&D

I'm in New Brunswick

Serious question.

If LPNs can work in CC/Semi-CC areas whats the point in RNs existing? Geez, nursing is so fragmented.

Look at the job situation in NB many nurses struggling at the moment to find work and many laid off in the last 12 months

Every friend I have here in NB that took there LPN had no trouble getting a job

I have seen many NB nurses looking at NS for work due to the difficulty in work. Who knows things may have changed when you qualify but at least be aware that nurses are struggling at the moment in NB

I am a PN in ontario, i work on a forensic assessment unit.

I'm interested to see where RPNs work in Canada!
